Through the development and refinement of teaching and research programmes that are intellectually challenging, rigorous in both analysis and application, as well as socially relevant, the Faculty of Arts aims to produce well-rounded graduates who can contribute to a fuller understanding of the Human Condition in both the historical and cultural contexts.

The vision of the Faculty is that of a growing and increasingly dynamic cluster of related departments that are not only primarily engaged in teaching and research in established disciplines, but are also able to balance this main thrust with an increasing consciousness of their social relevance and responsibility, in both mainstream and service programmes, as well as of the need to be resourceful. Accordingly, the Faculty is reviewing its programme of activities with a view to defining core areas of their disciplines in which teaching is backed by empirical research, and service areas which can be commercialized or from which they can derive at least some income.
