Accommodation

While facilities for the provision of board and lodging to international students are limited, efforts are made to ensure that the students are accommodated on campus.  Alternatively, the university provides help, in an advisory role, in securing privately owned accommodation for the students.

Ordinarily, international students are accommodated in the university’s students’ halls of residence together with the local students.  The arrangement gives the international and local students the opportunity to get to know each other and make friends.  Most of the halls of residence are situated within the university campus. In addition to the halls, there are self-contained and self-catering apartments reserved for international students.  Each of the apartments comprises a bedroom, lounge, kitchen and bathroom.

The provision of board and lodging is a self-supporting service and prospective students must ensure that they have adequate funds available to pay for the fees due in this regard.  In the halls of residence, meals are provided in a dining hall at very reasonable prices.  Students accommodated in the flats, may, if they wish, have meals in the nearby dining room. The university provides basic furniture in the rooms and public areas in each residence/apartment or flat but students have to provide their own bedding and toiletries.

Students Organizations

The university has over 30 student organizations, clubs and societies on campus.  The International Student Association is one such organization.  The Association’s goal is primarily to enhance cross-cultural understanding among students. The students’ organizations are affiliated to the University of Zimbabwe Students Union, which in turn is an affiliate of the Zimbabwe National Students Union.

Students Health Service

All undergraduate students are required to have medical cover (insurance).  The Students’ clinic on campus provides full primary care facilities as well as contraceptive, immunization and preventive health education provisions.

Sport

The university’s Sports Department manages a wide range of sporting activities that cater for everyone from the very committed sportsperson to those wishing to participate for exercise and enjoyment.  The university has very well developed lawn and table tennis, soccer, rugby, basketball, athletics and other sporting facilities.
