RESEARCH
From its very foundation, staff in the Department has been very active in research resulting in several publications both locally and internationally. Information on their research interests is available on request from the Department. The research interests of current members of staff include studies on marginality in rural areas, tourism and recreation, regional population migration, advanced applications in GIS, solid waste management, climate, water resource management, environmental impact assessment, agriculture and rural development. The staff also work closely with various non-governmental organisations and government departments such as the Department of Water Development, the Department of Natural resources, the Central Statistical Office and the Harare City Council, providing expert advice and making inputs on various issues of national development. They have also played a key role in the development of Geography as a subject in the educational curriculum of the country, both as external assessors in the teacher training colleges and through the Geographical Association of Zimbabwe.
