The Department serves the wider community through its alumni, providing highly qualified teachers and pastors. Other graduates are employed in a wide variety of occupations including the civil service, the media and even security. Members of staff are active in their outreach to schools and Colleges, serve on examining and curriculum development bodies, participate in programmes of the ZBC and ZTV and are active in their own Church denominations.
