Apart from its association with local colleges and sister Universities, the Department enjoys linkages with international academic/theological institutions. In the past formal links with Utrecht University, the Association of Chicago Theological Schools in Chicago and the Africa Christian Project at the University of Edinburgh have yielded significant publications on a variety of topics. The various sections of the Department belong to associations such as the Association of Theological Institutions of Southern Africa (ATISCA), the International Association for the Study of the History of Religion (IAHR), the International Federation of Classical Studies (FIEC) and the Council for Research in Values and Philosophy. There have been formal exchange programmes for students from American colleges such as Calpoly. Many informal links have been established by way of contact and sabbatical leave.
