Mrs Ndaizienyi Irene Nyamakura holds a Master of Business Administration(MBA) from the University of Zimbabwe (UZ), a Bachelor of Arts Special Honours,a Graduate Certificate in Education and an Executive Development Certificate allfrom the UZ. She also holds a Bachelor of Arts Special Honours in Communication and Media Studies from the Zimbabwe Open University, a Certificate e-BookPublishing, a Certificate Peer Review and Research Publishing and a Certificate in Research Writing in the Social Sciences from the International Network for theAvailability of Scientific Publications (INASP), a Certificate in Public Speaking and Presentation Skills, a Certificate in Public Relations Management and a Certificatein Event Management all from the Management Training Bureau, HarareZimbabwe. Mrs Nyamakura also holds an Online/eLearning Training Certificate from the National University ofScience and Technology (NUST), a Universities-Industry Linkages Training Certificate from the University ofLusaka, Zambia and a Certificate in Project Success Management from the International Project LeadershipAcademy, (awarded with faculty commendation for best performance in the class).

Mrs Ndaizienyi Irene Nyamakura, aka Ndai, is a publisher with more than 25 years of publishing experience.She has worked with Longman Zimbabwe, Maskew Miller Longman, DaNIDA’s Agricultural Sector SupportProgramme and with the Zimbabwe Publishing House (ZPH Publishers) as the General Manager (hired to turnaround the publishing outfit 2002-2007). Mrs Nyamakura was one of the founders of the Department ofPublishing Studies at the National University of Science and Technology (NUST), in Bulawayo, Zimbabwe;and taught on the BSc Honours Degree in Publishing Undergraduate Programme, She was part of the teamthat set up and developed NUST Press, the University publishing arm. She served the UZ as Director,Publications for two and a half years before, so she is back to ‘turn the UZ Publications outfit into a globalpublisher’. Mrs Nyamakura has had extensive on-the-job publishing training with Longman Zimbabwe,Pearson Education, UK, Maskew Millar Longman and Heinemann Publishers, SA. In her journey withpublishing, Ndai has edited and processed publications like the Step Ahead New Secondary English: FirstEdition for Zimbabwe and Lesotho (Longman), Pindukai (Longman ChiShona Primary Language Course),Nhaka YoUpenyu (ZPH ChiShona Primary Language Course), Step Ahead, Secondary Geography,(Longman ‘O’ and ‘A’ Level Courses), Step In Primary English (Longman English Primary Language Course),Step Ahead Secondary History and the Strides Secondary Courses (Longman Malawi English, Geography,History and Life Sciences). She has participated in the publications of the SARDC Gender Monitoring Project(Parliament of Zimbabwe project). She has also processed several ChiShona and EnglishNovels/Plays/Poetry, for secondary education in Zimbabwe. Ndai has arranged and compiled a ChiShonaPoetry Anthology Zviri Muchinokoro Kunaka, (2004, ZPH Publishers Pvt. Ltd.), Harare, and she penned twopoems therein (pp. 4-5 and 143-144).Her research interests are in Scholarly Communication, including new technologies in the management ofresearch publications in higher education. She is currently reading for her PhD. Mrs Nyamakura haspresented papers at International Conferences such as Zimbabwe International Book Fair (ZIBF), Association for the Development of Education in Africa (ADEA) and China-Africa/Zimbabwe Relations & RegionalCooperation of Southern Africa and Association of African Universities (AAU) Training Workshops.Mrs Nyamakura is a member of the Marketers Association Zimbabwe (MAZ), Zimbabwe Institute of Public Relations (ZIPR) and an affiliate member of the Africa Evidence Network (AEN). Ndai is a qualified teacher and has taught at both secondary school and at tertiary levels. She is currently studying towards a Diploma inDigital Marketing. In her lighter moments, Ndai loves to experiment with horticulture.

The department manages an integrated communication programme that includes:

Media liaison
The department is responsible for liaison with the media; both local and International, to highlight news and events happening at the university and inform the public about university programmes, research, student life on campus and activities of faculties and departments.

Public Relations
The Department has developed a consistent two-way communication with constituent organisations to enhance and build relationships between the university and its stakeholders.

Production of University Publications
To publish statutory reports such as the Vice Chancellor’s Annual Report, Yearbook and other informative publications such as UZ Weekly.

Online communications
The department is at the forefront of utilizing ICT portals for the convenience of local and international media and key publics within the growing internet social realm. As more people turn to the Web to receive news, the department is an active player in online communities and networks.

Organising University Functions and Events
The Department manages all major UZ events, particularly those hosted by the Chancellor and the Vice-Chancellor.
