Chairman's Statement

The Department of Demography Settlement and Development (DSD) has reviewed its curriculum so that is not only in line with the University of Zimbabwe 2019-2025 Strategic Plan, but also responds to the expectations of the Education 5.0. The following are the new programmes being offered by the Department of DSD:

Bachelor of Science (Honours) Population Science and Applied Demography;
Bachelor of Science (Honours) Human Settlement Spatiality and Mobility;
Master of Science Degree in Population Informatics and Analytics;
Masters of Science in Smart Settlement Designs and Amenities;
Master of Science Degree in Urban Transport Systems Design and Mobility;
Master of Science in Society Urban Systems and Design; and,
Postgraduate Diploma in Project Planning and Management.

It is important to note that the new programmes that are being offered in the Department are anchored on the need to produce graduates who are able to deliver goods and services for the advancement of innovation and subsequently fostering the industrialisation trajectory at national level. The goods and services that can be produced by graduates from the DSD Department include inter alia: designing policies and intervention programmes; undertaking research services; planning and designing amenities and cities using advanced information and communication technologies and innovative tools generated from digital intelligence for human settlements. In addition, graduates will be able to develop proper project risk identification and analysis for both the public and private entities. Such an approach will help fulfil the national mantra of turning Zimbabwe into an Upper Middle Income Economy by 2030.

The department constantly maximises the strengths of its diverse staff compliment to meet the set targets in teaching, research, community service, innovation and industrialisation. Nonetheless, teamwork and partnership with the community and industry will enhance such efforts.
