Mr Sergeant Chevo Mr Chevo brings to the post vast administrative experience. He joined the University of Zimbabwe in 1985 as an Administrative Assistant in the Department of Biological Sciences after working for two years for the then Ministry of Manpower Planning and Development as Research and Planning Officer. In 1988 he was promoted to the post of Assistant Registrar (Junior Non-Academic Staff).
His duties included servicing the Works Council, the Non-Academic Staff Promotion Committee, Selection Boards for Junior Non-Academic Staff and other human resources functions.
In 1995, Mr Chevo was promoted to the grade of Senior Assistant Registrar and took up added responsibilities which included the preparation of salary scales and documents, computerization of personnel records and the payroll as well as processing retrenchment packages.He also was instrumental in the introduction of a Performance Management system throughout the University.
Mr Chevo was heavily involved in the restructuring of the University which started in 1998 and resulted in the retrenchment of staff in the Departments of Accommodation and Catering Services (1998), Works and Estates (2000), Internal Audit Unit (2000) and other Departments across the University (2001).
On 1 November 2001, Mr Chevo was appointed to the post of Deputy Registrar, Human Resources for a five year term. He was responsible for the organization and administration of the University staff recruitment, staff development and training, the management of labour relations and the administration of the salaries and wages section.
Apart from the above, Mr Chevo was a member of the University Council (1993 - 1995), a member of the Board of Trustees for the University of Zimbabwe Pension Fund (1993 - 1995), a member of the Vice Chancellor's Committee of Enquiry into Salary Anomalies (1993) and Secretary to the Vice Chancellor's Committee of Inquiry into the Management and Control Systems of the Department of Accommodation and Catering Services.
Mr Chevo acted as Registrar for about eight months before being appointed as a substantive Registrar with effect from 1 May 2003 for a four year term.He is serving a second term as Registrar. |
