VISION

To become a strategic player in the economic development of the country and region through the development of a high level human resource for commerce and industry. The Faculty of Commerce seeks to make significant strides in the following key result areas:

  • -provision of high quality, market driven training through the Faculty’s undergraduate and postgraduate programmes;
  • -forging mutually beneficial links with local, regional and international institutions and organisations;
  • -increased research output to enhance quality of training;
  • -mobilising resources to adequately support teaching, learning and research activities.

The Faculty of Commerce is responsible for business and management education. We run degree and non-degree programmes ranging from certificate to PhD level. During the 2010/2011 academic year, over 1600 students were enrolled on our various degree programmes.

MISSION

Our mission is to provide high quality, market driven business education, training and consultancy services.

VALUES

Business education is a fundamental life skill without which one cannot go very far regardless of one’s life or line of business (i.e. whether it is a surgery, a farm, a school a law firm and art gallery/museum a political party or a philanthropic establishment).This education that is so fundamental in life can be acquired through experience and/or through formal education. In the Faculty of Commerce, we strongly believe that in order to produce the best business ‘graduates’, one needs an educational system that seeks to strike a healthy balance between the two. Such is the thinking that drives our curriculum development efforts; it is the major premise on which our degree and non-degree programs are based.
