Undergraduate Admissions

Undergraduate application overview 

Every year in January the University invites applications for the degree programmes on offer from prospective students. The advertisement is flighted in the national press and on the University website.

University of Zimbabwe programmes have varied selection criteria depending on the nature of the programme. To apply an applicant must meet the minimum entry requirements; however acceptance depends on competition from the other applicants.

Degree and Entrance Requirements 

For admission to programmes of study at the UZ for any first degree, a student must have attained qualifications in the ZIMSEC / CAMBRIDGE examinations or equivalent as specified under special requirements. 

All applicants MUST have passed at least five subjects, including English language at ‘O’ level and at least two ‘A’ Level passes.   

(N.B: at ‘O’ level only grades A, B and C are accepted)

  BA Hons in Journalism & Media Studies (HJMS) Two 'A' level passes in  Arts subjects . 4
  BA Hons in Film,Radio and Television Production (HFRTP) Passes in at least Two A' level subjects, one of which must be any Arts subject, preferably a language subject. Applicants with Post A' level qualifications with relevant qualifications may be admitted 4

  BA Dual Hons in Foreign Languages and Linguistics.Options:German & Linguistics-(HLG/GMB),Chinese & Linguistics (HLG/CHB) ,Portuguese & Linguistics (HGL/POB) A' level passes in language related subjects,English and English Literature are an added advantage . For German and Portuguese,a B1 certificate in German/Portugues Language from an institution recognised by University of Zimbabwe will be an  added advantage. Applicants with a post 'A' level  qualifications or with relevant work eperience may be admitted with approval of Senate. 3
  BA Dual Hons in Linguistics and Kiswahili (HLG/KIS) A' level Language related subject ,Ndebele or Shona. Applicants with  post A' level relevant qualification or with relevant work experience may be admitted with approval of senate . 3
  BA Hons in Chinese Language and Cultural studies (HCHBCS) Passes in 'A' level Language related subjects and any other Arts subject. Applicants with Post  'A' level relevant qualifications with relevant work experience maybe admitted with approval of Senate 3
  BA Dual Hons in German Cultural, Language and Literary Studies (HGCLLS) Two 'A' level passes, with a pass in English at 'O' Level. 'A' Level pass in English Literature is an added advantage, Or A B1 certificate in German Language from an institution recognised by the University. Those students who graduated with a BA General with German as a main subject should register at level 2 of the Honours Programme. 3
  BA Hons in French Language and Cultural  Studies (HFLCS) A' level Language subject and one other Arts subject. Diploma in Education in French or A' level French will be exempted from first year language courses. 3
