Find more infoBiochemistry at UZ was established more than 40 years ago. It is a member of the Faculty of Science, located in and affiliated to the Faculty of Medicine. We have achieved both national and international recognition for our research and teaching. The Department of Biochemistry has seven full-time academic and ten technical and clerical staff. Biochemistry courses are taught at undergraduate and postgraduate level to students of disciplines with different backgrounds. The entry qualification for the teaching members of staff is a PhD. These professionals are dedicated to educating undergraduate and postgraduate students in this interesting field of science and research. The Biochemistry program at UZ has modern labs and is well equipped for both undergraduate and postgraduate programs. Postgraduate programmes on offer are DPhil, MPhil and MSc in Biotechnology. The MSc programme is offered in collaboration with the Department of Biological Sciences and Department of Crop Science students, Faculty of Agriculture. In addition, the department embarks on various research areas that are closely linked to the postgraduate programmes.
