Eng Happymore Mbiza

Eng Happymore Mbiza is a Civil Engineering doctorate candidate at the University of Johannesburg (SA) and Lund University (Sweden). He has an MSc in Municipal Water and Infrastructure from Unesco-IHE Institute for Water Education (The Netherlands) and an MSc in Urban Water Engineering and Management from Asian Institute of Technology (Thailand). His BSc is in Environmental Science and Technology from Chinhoyi University of Technology (Zimbabwe).  He is a member of the International Water Association and the Water Institute of South Africa. He has supervised about 120 undergraduate students over the years. He is also a member of the Editorial Board for Springer Nature Journal and Water Research Commission.

Eng Mbiza is the founder and board chairman of The Centre for Smart Cities and Global Health (formerly Vermex Water Systems Private Limited.) He has been the Executive director at Vermex Water Systems since 2018, a role he took after working for Chinhoyi university of Technology as a Lecturer in the department of Environmental Engineering for 4 years. Eng Mbiza was a Science and Technology Officer in The Ministry of Science and Technology Development for 5 years.

Eng Mbiza’s main areas of expertise and research interest are;

  1. New and upcoming water and wastewater treatment technologies including greywater reclamation
  2. Emerging contaminants (micro-pollutants, pharmaceuticals, micro-plastics and Endocrine Disrupting Substances)
  3. Environmental/water accounting and auditing,
  4. Water quality standards, regulations and economics in the SADC context
  5. Disaster management and environmental safety planning in developing countries
  6. Environmental Quality Monitoring and Control
  7. Data management and security in the water sector
  8. Environmental/water-sensitive urban design
