The Honourable Minister of Higher and Tertiary Education, Science and Technology Development Professor Jonathan N. Moyo (MP) was overwhelmingly impressed by developments at the Marondera College of Agricultural Sciences and Technology (MCAST), in particular, the sterling work by the University of Zimbabwe in incubating the institution, MCAST.
Addressing the UZ administration and members of the MCAST administration, academic and non-academic staff during his tour of MCAST on 10 October 2015, the Minister thanked the University of Zimbabwe for a job well done in nurturing the development of MCAST. The visit to MCAST by the Minister was part of his on-going tours of institutions of higher learning in the country for purposes of acquainting himself with the state of higher and tertiary education delivery in the country.

The Minister pointed out that following the recent promulgation of the Act establishing the Marondera University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology, MCAST would become a fully-fledged university by January 2016. As such, he sought the assistance of the University of Zimbabwe, as the mother institution, to draw up a budget for the institution for 2016, and a master plan for the transformation of the university college into a stand-alone university, as well as draw up a plan to translate the new university’s academic plans into faculties.

During the tour of the institution, the Vice Chancellor of the University of Zimbabwe, Professor L. M. Nyagura led the Minister on a tour of the institution’s physical infrastructure and agricultural projects, including the newly planted 16 hectare vineyard.
