Message From the Dean’s Office

Greetings!!

The Faculty of Education at the University of Zimbabwe educates teachers for the nation, the Region and the Diaspora. The Faculty is also engaged in research and community service. Research, teaching and intellectual excellence in the Faculty have resulted in a gargantuan impact in the nation whereby Zimbabwe realised a 92% literacy rate; 99% literacy rate among females and 98% among males. This is because wherever you have gone to school in Zimbabwe, it is likely that your life has been affected positively in one way or another, by a teacher who has come through the Faculty of Education. Between January 1999 and March 2011, the Faculty produced 1 857 B.Ed. graduates; 732 M.Ed.; and D.Phil. graduates.

In addition, the Graduate Certificate of Education (Grad. C.E.), which later became the Graduate Diploma in Education (Grad. D.E.) produced 1 165 secondary school teachers serving in Zimbabwe, the Region and the Diaspora. In addition 105 Post-Graduate Diploma students graduated and 161 students graduated with a Diploma in either Adult Education, Science Education or Educational Technology.

The Faculty has also produced over 30 000 teachers through its Scheme of Association with 15 Teachers’ Colleges, and 535 Diplomas with the Zimbabwe Republic Police between 1996 and 2011and 120 Diplomas with the Zimbabwe Staff College between 1999 and 2011 Thus, many teachers and members of the Uniformed Services have come through the Faculty of Education
