The Department of Metallurgy Engineering was established in 1985 within the Faculty of Engineering through an intergovernmental co-operation agreement between Zimbabwe and Germany.  The department is relatively small but has grown from producing four graduates at start to an average of thirty graduates annually.  Graduates from this department are leaders in both public and private sectors locally and internationally.  Co-operation between the department and industry forms one of the backbone activities which ensure continued relevance of curriculum to the local industry.  Several research projects have been successfully concluded in partnership with local industry.  International co-operation in training and research is also actively being pursued.
