The Department of Mining Engineering in the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Zimbabwe was established in 1985 through on inter-government technical cooperation agreement between the Republic of Zimbabwe and the Federal Republic of Germany represented by the German Agency for Technical  Cooperation (GTZ).  To date it has graduated well over 200 mining engineers some of whom hold senior management positions within the local mining industry and the SADC region.  It offers  a 4 – year BSc. (Hons) Mining Engineering degree (HME) course which includes a compulsory 9 months industrial attachment programme in order to produce a well balanced mining engineer.  Post-graduate study is offered through supervised research-based MPhil and DPhil degrees.  All degree programmes are recognised locally and internationally.
