OVERVIEW OF THE PROGRAMMES OFFERED IN THE DEPARTMENT
The Department is made up of five sections: Veterinary Microbiology, Veterinary Immunology, Veterinary Parasitology, and Veterinary Pathology. Each of these sections is devoted to teaching of the respective subjects, mainly to Bachelor of Veterinary Science Part II students for three semesters after which they sit for professional examinations. The Microbiology, Parasitology and Pathology sections also run diagnostic laboratories, which in addition to performing routine laboratory diagnosis for the University of Zimbabwe Veterinary Teaching Hospital and the general community also conduct teaching of Laboratory Diagnostics to Bachelor of Veterinary Science Part IV students for two semesters.
The Department also offers taught masters degrees in the following programmes: Master of Veterinary Science degrees in Veterinary Microbiology & Immunology, Veterinary Parasitology, and Veterinary Pathology. Candidates may also register for Master of Philosophy (MPhil) or Doctor of Philosophy (DPhil) degrees by research.
