Halls of Residence

STUDENT RESIDENCE

At present the University can accommodate 4 203 students in residence. There are six halls of residence for men – Manfred Hodson Hall with accommodation for 653 students in double and treble rooms, Teachers Hostel with accommodation for 99 in single rooms, NC 5 with accommodation for 510 in double rooms and the New Residential Complexes 1, 2, and 3 with combined accommodation for 1 458 in partitioned, single and double rooms. There are three halls of residence for women – Swinton Hall provides accommodation for 459 in double rooms, Carr
Saunders provides accommodation for 273 and New Residential Complex 4 which provides accommodation for 486 in single, partitioned and double rooms. There are three Hostels which accommodate both men and women – New Hall provides accommodation for 93 in single rooms,Mount Royal provides accommodation for 92 students in double rooms and Medical Residence provides accommodation for 81 students in single rooms.The Halls are self-contained, providing for study bedrooms, common rooms, dining room facilities and other social amenities. As it is not possible to accommodate all those students seeking admission into residence it has become necessary to allocate places according to the following priorities


1st Priority • First year undergraduate students whose homes are out of Harare.
• Disabled students, SEC, SRA, Foreign Students, Hall Committee members,
MBCHB part IV & V and BVSc part V.


2nd Priority • Final year undergraduate students whose homes are out of Harare, MBCHB III,
BVSc IV


3rd Priority • 3rd year undergraduate of 4 year programmes


4th Priority • Second year undergraduate students whose homes are out of Harare.
 

5th Priority • Final year students whose homes are in Harare.
 

6th Priority • First year undergraduate students whose homes are in Harare


7th Priority • Post graduate students whose homes are out of Harare


Note: In all cases, Harare is defined to include Chitungwiza, Seke, Norton, and Ruwa. Returning
students are advised that if their homes are in Harare, they should make arrangements to secure
their own accommodation off campus.
All students offered university accommodation are encouraged to familiarize themselves with the
rules and regulations covering resident students as enshrined in Ordinance 30.
