Our Mission Statement

To provide high quality development relevant training and research thereby contributing to making Zimbabwe part of the global knowledge society (both as consumer and producer of knowledge) for the benefit of future generations.

Our Vision

In line with the objectives of the University of Zimbabwe ULKRS seeks. To be a Centre of excellence in social, natural and health sciences so as to promote Zimbabwe as a knowledge-based society.

Our Values

The core values governing the ULKRS’ development will include:

  • Team work
  • Professionalism
  • Integrity
  • Commitment
  • Innovativeness
  • Passion for what we do
  •
  • Market

The Station is the only one of its nature around Lake Kariba with a potential to capture a large part of the market share on most studies that will need to be carried out including monitoring, which is already taking place, albeit at low capacity utilization. Thus, the station will be able to provide consulting services to various stakeholders to include Government Departments, NGOs, safari operators, the fishing industry and other stakeholders.

Competition

The Station faces limited competition from other research stations as it is the only interdisciplinary research facility situated in the area. There are other research stations e.g. Lake Kariba Fisheries Research Institute (LKFRI, Zimbabwe) and Sinazongwe Fisheries Research Station (Zambia) whose focus is mainly on research related to the management of the fish resources on the lake.

LINKAGES

ULKRS by virtue of its core-business (Research and Training) has linkages with other organizations. The linkages are at different levels i.e. inter-faculty, inter sectoral, regional and international.
