Legal Aid Advice Scheme
The Legal Aid and Advice Scheme, commonly known as the Legal Aid Clinic, commenced operations in May 1995. The Clinic is now registered as a law firm. In its present form the Clinic is run by a Director, who is a registered legal practitioner. The Clinic operates with the assistance of volunteer students in their 3rd and 4th year studying for their LLB (Hons) Degree. The Clinic's main objectives are:
  1. To provide legal aid and legal representation in any court of law, tribunal or body before which a party may be represented by a legal practitioner for litigants or persons who are unable to obtain the services of legal practitioners on their own account due to insufficient means.
  2. To establish, administer and assist legal clinics and other organisations which provide legal advice and assistance to the public to facilitate the optimal provision of legal services.
  3. To assist in the practical training of law students through supervised provision of legal aid and legal representation as provided in terms of paragraph (1) above.
