| Legal Aid Advice Scheme |
The Legal Aid and Advice Scheme, commonly known as the Legal Aid Clinic, commenced operations in May 1995. The Clinic is now registered as a law firm. In its present form the Clinic is run by a Director, who is a registered legal practitioner. The Clinic operates with the assistance of volunteer students in their 3rd and 4th year studying for their LLB (Hons) Degree. The Clinic's main objectives are:
- To provide legal aid and legal representation in any court of law, tribunal or body before which a party may be represented by a legal practitioner for litigants or persons who are unable to obtain the services of legal practitioners on their own account due to insufficient means.
- To establish, administer and assist legal clinics and other organisations which provide legal advice and assistance to the public to facilitate the optimal provision of legal services.
- To assist in the practical training of law students through supervised provision of legal aid and legal representation as provided in terms of paragraph (1) above.
