OPENING HOURS

  • Monday to Friday : 0800 hrs to 2200 hrs.
  • Saturday : 0800 hrs to 1200 hrs.
  • Sunday : 0800 hrs to 1200 hrs. (Exam Time Only, otherwise closed)
  • Public Holidays : Closed.

MEMBERSHIP

The Law Library is open to University of Zimbabwe students, members of staff and approved readers.


RESOURCES IN THE LIBRARY

At the moment, the library houses about 21 000 books. Subject areas covered are Criminal Law, Law of Contract, Family Law, Delicit, Commercial Law, Law of Evidence, Accounting, Durisprudence, Law of Property, Statutory Interpretation, Constitutional Law, History of Law, Criminal Procedure, Civil Procedure, Advanced Civil Procedure, Tax Law, Banking Law, Administrative Law, Environmental Law, Labour Law, Discussion, Criminology, Insurance, Women's Law, Intellectual Property, Conveyancing, Alternative Dispute Resolutions, Ethics, Notorial Practice.

These are categorised as follows:-

Reference Books
These must be read in the library only and are not available for borrowing e.g. dictionaries, directories , encyclopaedias etc.

ReserveBooks
These are the most heavily used books and must be returned to the library the following day before 9:00am. Failure to comply attracts a fine. For fine schedule consult the Circulation Services .

Short Term Loan
This is material which may be borrowed for short periods of upto 3 days. For fine schedule consult the Circulation Services .

Dissertations
About sixty(60) dissertations are submitted annually by law students in partial fulfilment of their LLB Honours Degree.

Special Collection.
There is material on Human Rights, Women's Law plus International & Specialist law reports.

Rare Collection.
This includes collections on Roman Law and Legal history and is all available in the library.

CD-ROM Databases

Available to all library users. Databases currently available are:-

  • BUTTERWORTHS - Law Journals.
  • Jutastat

Other Databases

These are available on CDS-ISIS and include

  • Dissertations.
  • Human Rights materials.

Photocopying Services

These are available to all library users and are chargeable.

Inter-Library Loans Services

For sourcing Books and journals that are not available in the library.

Library Orientation Tours

Available to all new students and any other library user on request.
