Journal of Peace, Conflict and Military Studies
Vol. 1, No. 1, March 2000, ISSN 1563-4019
Acknowledgements
The Centre for Defence Studies (CDS) wishes to acknowledge the
commitment of its partners in the Southern Africa Development Community
(SADC) regional Network for Defence and Security Management who
have contributed to the realization of this Journal. Without their
goodwill and support, this would have been an impossible task for
us. Not only have our partners contributed by submitting articles
which appear in the Journal of Peace, Conflict and Military Studies
but, through their considered opinion, have also allocated funds
via the Steering Committee the executive arm of the Network
toward the production of the Journal. This Journal is now
expected to become one of the flagships of the Project on Defence
and Security Management in Southern Africa.
Secondly, we wish to congratulate all the contributors in this
pioneering issue of the Journal of Peace, Conflict and Military
Studies who have placed confidence in us by submitting refreshingly
researched and argued pieces. These should further increase our
understanding of the dynamic relationship that obtains between security,
defence management and politics in the communities of Southern Africa.
Finally, the CDS, University of Zimbabwe, would like to express
our deep appreciation to the Danish people and their International
Assistance and Development Aid Agency, DANIDA, for providing the
funding that has enabled a number of ideas from the Southern African
region to be ventilated in an academic Journal launched at the University
of Zimbabwe. Notwithstanding the material support from the Danes,
we wish to state, however, that the views expressed in this Journal
are entirely the responsibility of the authors.
