provide consultancy services to external organisations with
special interest in counselling.

OVERVIEW |
At the department of Counseling and Advisory Services (DCAS) our services are free, private, confidential and user friendly. They are provided to assist undergraduate and post graduate students with personal, work or study related difficulties. If you are having problems feel free to come and chat about it with any one of our counselors. The number of consultations needed depends on the problem but many difficulties require only one or a few sessions. Appointments are better made in advance or prior to seeing the counselors, but in case of an emergency please feel free to consult at any time. |
The Counseling Team: |
The Counselling team comprises of the following group of dedicated members whose role is to provide support to students in need.
- Faculty Advisors / Counselors who are found in all 9 faculties and the College of Health Sciences in the University
- Peer Counselors - who are student volunteers trained in basic counselling skills and other areas
- DCAS counselors: who are registered psychologists offer counselling services from the Student Affairs building- room 18.
- The Chaplaincy who are a team of Pastors and Clergy offer counselling on spiritual matters
- The Disability Resource Centre team offers counselling and support services to all students with disabilities. (N.B. - students with disabilities can access all other University counselors.)
- Wardens: who reside outside each hall of residence offer counseling to students in the halls of residence.
- Student Health Services team of sessional Doctors, Nurses, a Psychiatrist and a Psychologist offer counseling to students with health related problems.

The counseling team helps students with any new, ongoing or intermittent problems that negatively affect them and their studies, e.g.

It is the policy of the Department
of Counselling and Advisory services that all the peer counselling
programmes should be co-ordinated from the Department. This
is done to ensure that professional counselling guidelines
are adhered to. Training programmes and seminars will be conducted
with the engagement of highly qualified personnel drawn from
a pool of University lecturers with requisite skills in the
field.
