Professor Clara Haruzivishe

PhD in Nursing (MCH/Midwifery major) (USA); Master’s in Adult Education(UZ); BSc Nursing Science (UK); Diploma in Nursing (UK); Diploma in midwifery(UK); Diploma in Nursing & Adult Education(UZ).

 

She first joined the Department in 1995 following a WW Kellogg fellowship award to study for a PhD at Case Western Reserve University Cleveland Ohio, USA. She came back to the Department upon completion in 2000 and received tenure in 2005. She joined the US- Centre’s for Disease Control and Prevention (US- CDC) as a Medical Epidemiologist and Public health specialist for HIV Prevention Care and Treatment. She gained valuable experience in grant and program management monitoring and evaluation. She rejoined the Department in October 2014 as a fulltime permanent Senior Lecturer in the Department to teach MCH and Midwifery, and received tenure again in April 2017.She was promoted to associate professor in May 2018.

She has provided leadership in grants management and research and devoted her time in coordinating an innovative method of teaching DPhil students in a limited setting. She led the Nursing team in the review and development of curriculum and also introduced concept analysis as a teaching method that enhances knowledge development and publication in the nursing field. She has extended this method to neighboring Zambia and Malawi. She is currently a PI of three studies including a multicenter study is currently managing 7 grants awarded to masters in Nursing, 7 grants awarded to DPhil fellows and 9 small grants awarded to the UZCHS faculty focused on Maternal and Child health outcomes. She has 50 publications in referred journals.

She is active in the following University committees: Staff development, Senate Subcommittee Associate Affiliate Status for the University of Zimbabwe, College Regulation committee. She was also appointed as a member of the Zimbabwe Nurses council examination committee (2015-2020). She is a member of the Faith Ministries Medical Missions. She has been nominated by the Ministry of Health for a consideration for the Princess Srinagarinda Award (Thailand) 2018, for her contribution to nursing and midwifery education and research.
