Mooting is an essential part of law students as it allows them to practice advocacy skills.

Students participating in a moot are given a set of facts and have to decide how the law is applied to those facts. They will then present an oral argument before a simulated court or tribunal.

The moot that will be presented during UZ Research Week relates to the international humanitarian law rules, that is rules applicable when a war is being waged. In this moot, two military commanders have been charged before an international tribunal with violation of the rules of war. Two students will present the arguments for the prosecution and two will present the arguments for the defence.

The tribunal hearing the arguments will consist of a number of distinguished advocates and academics. The senior judge will be Advocate Mahere.
