Eng. Hilton Chingosho is an accomplished researcher at the University of Zimbabwe. He is a Lecturer in the Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering at the University of Zimbabwe, with research interests in Electrical Mobility, Renewable Energy, Energy Storage, Energy Efficiency and Sustainability. He is a Certified Energy Manager (CEM), an International Member of the Association of Energy Engineers (USA), and a professional member of the Zimbabwe Institution of Engineers and Engineering Council of Zimbabwe.

He is a Technical Committee member of the Government of Zimbabwe's Distributed Renewable Energy Taskforce. He is the current  local trainer for Standards Association of Zimbabwe (SAZ) End User Energy Management Systems Implementation Course (EnMS) and currently seats as a Technical Committee member on two Standards Associations of Zimbabwe’s (SAZ)Technical Committees for Energy Management and Energy Saving, and Solar Photovoltaic Systems Standards where he has participated in reviewing and upgrading of ZWS IEC TS 62257-9-5 and -9-8 and reviewing the IEC Test Methods for Pico PV and Solar Home System Kits” Standard Association of Zimbabwe.

He is a Country Representative for the SOLTRAIN Australian Development Cooperation Project. He was one of the Champions during the UZ Reprograming programme under the Faculty of Engineering as well as being the current Research Cluster Leader- Energy and Power Research Cluster under the same Faculty. He is also the current Renewable Energy Program Coordinator. 

Before joining UZ in 2016, he had worked in Energy Management & Standards, Sustainability, Policy and Climate Advocacy, and lobbying programs. He was the Program Officer for HIVOS Southern Africa providing technical support for the Sustainable Energy for All (SE4ALL) program. He has also worked for UNICEF, Social Policy and Research as a Climate Change and Environment –UN Volunteer in Zimbabwe. He was the Advocacy Officer for Practical Action Southern Africa, under the Power for All Program and participated in the development of Renewable Energy (RE) policy. He was a Research and Development Engineer for Samansco P.v.t Ltd where he was the Project Engineer for the installation and commissioned of the Airport Road Solar Street Lighting Project. He did his undergraduate internship as a Junior Engineer at Zimbabwe Electricity Transmission and Distribution Company (ZETDC).

Among other notable consultancy assignments such as UNEP DTU Development of E-Mobility policy framework and a Roadmap for Zimbabwe where he was the lead Expert on EV Charging and UNEP DTU E-Bus Market Feasibility Study for Harare City Zimbabwe, where he was the Transportation Energy and Power Systems Expert, he has conducted Energy Audits for both the Industrial and Commercial sectors in Zimbabwe. His energy systems design experience includes working as a Solar Systems Design Engineering consultant for UNICEF in the Rural Piped Water Schemes Project, and also as a Quality Control Engineer under We Care Solar- Light Every Birth Program, responsible for the design and installation management of 900 Solar PV suitcases installed in health facilities in Zimbabwe. He was a Steering Committee Member for the Development of the National Renewable Energy Policy Document.2015-2017. He has extensive experience in energy storage, solar resource analysis, and mapping and has also published in reputable journals on issues to do with Energy Storage, Modelling, and Simulation of Energy Systems, Energy Management, Efficiency, Energy Policy and Sustainable Energy.
