BACHELOR OF ARTS HONOURS CREATIVE DESIGNS ANIMATION AND MOTION GRAPHICS (HCDAMG)
| Module Code | Module Name | Description |
|---|---|---|
| HCDAMG 104 | Graphic Design Interface | This module allows students to explore and master the use of computers to aid the design process. Focus will be on the use of AutoCAD software to create readable designs of the products being developed. Topics to be covered are: computer drafting, manipulation of extrusions, wire frames, solid models, 3-D modelling, ways to render 3-D drawings in situational projects, orthographic projections, isometric projections, CAD annotations, pictorial sketches, and solid modelling and dimensioning. Students will be required to design digital models and graphics that can be used to promote them. |
| HCDAMG 105 | Introduction to Digital Media Technologies | The module introduces students to design, taking them through its history to its current state. Students will explore the following topics: different branches and fields of design, roles and social responsibilities of designers, influential artists and designers (past and present), contemporary inspirational contributors in the field of design, design methodologies, design processes, user-centred design approaches, activity-centred design approaches and universal design |
| HCDAMG 106 | Fundamentals of Design and Visual Communication | The module introduces students to design, taking them through its history to its current state. Students will explore the following topics: different branches and fields of design, roles and social responsibilities of designers, influential artists and designers (past and present), contemporary inspirational contributors in the field of design, design methodologies, design processes, user-centred design approaches, activity-centred design approaches and universal design |
| HCDAMG 404 | Digital Media Effects | This module will equip students with the ability to create visual tricks and illusions in films, television shows and video games. Instruction will be given on the digital technologies required to create both visual effects (vfx) and sound effects (sfx).Students will be taught the animated film-making technique in which objects are manipulated in small increments between individually photographed frames. The skills acquired will allow students to create cutout animations, pixilations as well clay or plascticine-based claymations. |
| HCDAMG 205 | Audio Visual Library | This module provides students with comprehensive access to a curated collection of audio-visual resources essential for animation students. It covers the effective utilization of multimedia content, sound design, and visual references to enhance creative projects. Students will learn how to source, analyze, and incorporate audio-visual materials into their workflows, fostering research skills, inspiration, and technical proficiency in animation production |

Project Monitoring and Evaluation |
The purpose of this module is to equip students with the knowledge and skills necessary to effectively plan, monitor, and evaluate media projects. This module typically covers topics such as monitoring tools and techniques, evaluation methods, impact assessment, data analysis and reporting, project risk management, case studies and best practices, ethical considerations, future trends in project monitoring and Evaluation. Students will learn how to assess the impact and effectiveness of media projects, identify strengths and weaknesses, and make recommendations for improvement. This module helps students develop critical thinking, analytical, and project management skills essential for success in the media and communication field. |

Work Related Learning Report |
This module is designed to integrate academic theory with practical workplace experience, enabling students to critically reflect on professional practice within a real organisational context. The module requires learners to document their placement environment, roles and responsibilities, and the skills and competencies developed during the attachment period. It emphasizes reflective learning, professional ethics, problem-solving, communication and the application of discipline-specific knowledge to real-world challenges. Through structured reporting and analysis, the module supports personal and professional development, enhances employability, and encourages students to evaluate how workplace learning informs their academic and career trajectories. |
| HCDAMG 405 | Curatorial and gallery studies | This module introduces students to the museum as an art institution which deals with cultural heritage. The module entails visits to museums and studying its operations. Guest lecturers are part of the modules as well as simulations and curating of exhibitions. |
| HCDAMG 404 | Capstone Project | Ultimately students will apply the knowledge, skills and techniques they have acquired throughout the program to create an original animation or speculative fiction short film. The Capstone Project is a comprehensive module which encompasses the following examinable aspects: scriptwriting and concept development, realization of final product and planning and implementation of a screening of the film. Students are expected to collaborate with industry for this project. Students will be encouraged to tap into Zimbabwe’s socio-political and cultural heritage to develop stories that reflect the nation’s mythologies, cultures and belief systems |
| HCDAMG 470 | Project/Dissertation | The module equips learners with the skills of carrying out the actual research and writing a research project through data collection. The students are given an opportunity to research on a topic of their choice. This module derives support from other fundamental modules in the degree programme with the guidance of an experienced faculty member. The length of the research project should range from 10 000 to 12 000 words. |
