The module shall empower students to have knowledge of various information sources, search, retrieve, evaluate, process, and apply information resources in university learning using appropriate technology. The students shall learn and demonstrate how to apply effective search strategies in different technological environments and electronic resources. Students will be expected to demonstrate the ethical and fair use of information resources (plagiarism and referencing). | HPRM103 | Marketing Principles 11 | This module explores the basic concepts of marketing such as marketing management philosophies, social responsibility and ethics, marketing environment, marketing planning, marketing information and marketing research, market segmentation, positioning, and targeting, and consumer and organisational buying behaviour. Thus, by the end of the module students will be able to put together the first half of the components of an operational or strategic marketing plan such as the current marketing situation, identification of the target market and analysis of its behaviour, and definition of marketing objectives. |

Students will also learn how to design new algorithms for each new data structure studied, create and perform simple operations on graph data structures, describe and implement common algorithms for working with advanced data structures and recognize which data structure is the best to use to solve a particular problem. |

This is a four-year course broken down into four parts. The course gives brief but succinct coverage of student development theories and how they inform teaching and learning at tertiary education institutions. This course offers an introduction to Deep Artificial Neural Networks (i.e. “Deep Learning”). With focus on both theory and practice, models for various applications are covered, how they are trained and tested, and how they can be deployed in real world applications. During the attachment year, students will be launched for attachment to enable understanding of the importance of multi-disciplinary and interdisciplinary partnerships in research and innovation; Appreciation of the different tools, software packages, methods and approaches in data analysis and be able to draw conclusion; and Capacitation of skills to implement context-specific ‘hands-on’ research activities under targeted conditions (e.g. archival, field, laboratory, industrial, civil and commercial conditions). |

| CCLSBE201 | Critical Consciousness and Life Skills | This module equips all students who study at the University of Zimbabwe with basic knowledge about the nation’s history, strategic interests, its role in the region, its position in the international arena and its international relations. The module provides basic knowledge about Zimbabwe’s pre-colonial, colonial and post-colonial history. For contemporary issues, it touches on basic issues such as demography, economics, politics and foreign policy. The thinking behind this module is that as our students proceed with their university education and later join the labour market, engage in entrepreneurial activities and interact with others both within and outside Zimbabwe, they should be conversant with Zimbabwean history in order to appreciate contemporary issues and debates. This helps foster in them a sense of national consciousness and patriotism critical in their contribution to sustainable development and the maintenance of peace and security in Zimbabwe. |

| BMI301 | Data Warehousing & Mining | The aim of this module is to impart the knowledge on how to implement classical models and algorithms in data warehousing and data mining and to characterize the kinds of patterns that can be discovered. Students will learn how to design a data warehouse. This will provide hands-on experience on modelling and implementing a data warehouse. In addition, the students will learn data mining techniques; how they work and how to use them. Also, the students will have hands-on experience using data mining toolkits, including how to visualise and interpret the results. |

| BMI460 | Research Project | This is a research project of about 10000 words based on an agreed topic, preferably of public relations significance, written over two semesters. A student initially writes and submits a research project proposal of about 3000 words that, if approved, is subsequently implemented. Thereafter, each student is assigned an academic supervisor to guide her in the implementation of the research proposal and writing up of the research project. |
