HCM101 Organisational Theory Behaviour & Design This module examines how organizations operate, adapt, and achieve goals by studying their structures, cultures, and human behavior. It introduces students to key organizational theories, models, and design principles while exploring the dynamics of individual, group, and organizational behavior. The module emphasizes understanding motivation, leadership, communication, decision-making, and change management within organizational contexts.Students will learn how to analyze organizational structures and design effective systems that enhance performance, foster innovation, and respond to internal and external challenges.
BEM101 Business Administration I This module is framed to provide students with a basic understanding of business, its functions and environment and equip them with basic business management skills. Enterprise Development students need these foundation skills to be able to appreciate and apply business management knowledge they will be exposed to at higher levels.
IDBS101 Information and Digital Skills The module is designed for all first-year undergraduate students. The module shall empower students to have knowledge of various information sources, search, retrieve, evaluate, process, and apply information resources in university learning using appropriate technology. The students shall learn and demonstrate how to apply effective search strategies in different technological environments and electronic resources. Students will be expected to demonstrate the ethical and fair use of information resources (plagiarism and referencing). Finally, the students will learn how to integrate 21st-century technologies, eResources and eLearning system into university learning and business.
SDLSBE101 Student Development and Life Skills This module aims to equip students with essential personal, interpersonal, and professional skills necessary for holistic development and success in academic and professional settings. It covers topics such as time management, effective communication, problem-solving, leadership, teamwork, emotional intelligence, and stress management. The module also addresses career planning, ethical decision-making, financial literacy, and strategies for maintaining physical and mental well-being. By the end of the module, students will have enhanced their self-awareness, resilience, and life skills, enabling them to navigate challenges, engage productively in society, and achieve personal and professional goals.

Languages and Acquisition and Inter –Cultural Communication – Foreign Language

This module explores the processes of language acquisition and development, with a focus on first and second language learning. It examines linguistic structures, cognitive processes, and sociocultural factors influencing language learning. Additionally, the module addresses the principles and practices of inter-cultural communication, highlighting how culture affects language use, communication styles, and understanding across diverse cultural contexts. Students will develop practical skills for effective communication in multicultural environments, including strategies for overcoming language barriers and fostering intercultural competence in professional and social settings.

HCM102 Human Resources Policies and Practices This module provides students with an in-depth understanding of human resource management (HRM) policies and practices within organizations. It explores the development, implementation, and evaluation of HR policies that support organizational objectives, employee engagement, and legal compliance. Students will study key areas such as recruitment, selection, training and development, performance management, compensation, employee relations, and workplace ethics. The module emphasizes aligning HR practices with strategic goals, promoting organizational effectiveness, and fostering a positive work environment.
BEM102 Business Administration II The module is an extension of the first semester module acknowledging the wide field of management. The module as is the case with its predecessor ensures that Enterprise Development students build foundation skills needed to appreciate and apply business management knowledge they will be exposed to at higher levels.
BEM201 Negotiation Principles   The module equips students with knowledge and skills to analyse various types of negotiations and develop effective strategies to apply in engaging involved parties. The said skills are critical for Enterprise Development students who will inevitably in various types of negotiations with key stakeholders as they plan for setting up, implement and manage their enterprises.

 BEM202  Business Statistics  The modules enable students to acquire skills required to analyse quantitative data and use the findings to inform managerial decisions.  In today’s world managers need to make evidence-based decisions.
 HCM305  Occupational Safety, Health and Environment Management I  This module introduces students to the principles and practices of occupational safety, health, and environmental (OSHE) management. It focuses on creating safe and healthy workplaces while minimizing environmental impact. Students will learn about workplace hazards, risk assessment, accident prevention, safety regulations, and environmental management systems. The module emphasizes compliance with legal and regulatory frameworks, promoting a culture of safety, and implementing proactive strategies to protect employees, the organization, and the environment.
HCM304 Performance Management and Rewards Systems This module explores the principles and practices of performance management and reward systems within organizations. It provides students with an understanding of how to design, implement, and evaluate systems that align employee performance with organizational objectives. The module covers performance planning, monitoring, appraisal, feedback, and the development of reward strategies including compensation, incentives, and recognition programs. Emphasis is placed on linking performance management and reward systems to motivation, employee engagement, legal compliance, and organizational effectiveness.
CCLSBE201 Critical Consciousness and Life Skills This module equips all students who study at the University of Zimbabwe with basic knowledge about the nation’s history, strategic interests, its role in the region, its position in the international arena and its international relations. The module provides basic knowledge about Zimbabwe’s pre-colonial, colonial and post-colonial history. For contemporary issues, it touches on basic issues such as demography, economics, politics and foreign policy. The thinking behind this module is that as our students proceed with their university education and later join the labour market, engage in entrepreneurial activities and interact with others both within and outside Zimbabwe, they should be conversant with Zimbabwean history in order to appreciate contemporary issues and debates. This helps foster in them a sense of national consciousness and patriotism critical in their contribution to sustainable development and the maintenance

This is a four-year course broken down into four parts. The course gives brief but succinct coverage of student development theories and how they inform teaching and learning at tertiary education institutions. These theories include William Perry’s Student Development Schemer, P. Chickering, J. Piaget and Lawrence Kohlberg’s student development theories. The Module then introduces students to concepts, programmes and activities that foster student quotients; i.e., IQ (Intelligent Quotient), SQ (Social Quotient), AQ (Adversity Quotient), EQ (Emotional Quotient), MQ (Money Quotient or entrepreneurial capability), etc.

The course adopts participatory and student-centred approaches in creating platforms for student growth in the following social and soft skills: effective communication, interpersonal skills, problem-solving skills, negotiation skills, networking skills, group dynamics, presentation skills, empathy and compassion, community consciousness, voluntarism, leadership skills,integrity, self-efficacy, self-confidence, self-actualisation, self-esteem, critical awareness, responsible citizenship, motivation and self-driven, aesthetical and environmental appreciation, healthy lifestyles, aristocratic social graces and appreciation of art and music, etiquette, grooming and deportment, etc.

 HCM202  Gender and Leadership  This module introduces students to the importance of understanding gender and its influence on successful leadership in the management of organizations. Focus is on strategies for managing leadership and gender challenges. At the end of the module students will be able to mainstream gender in all aspects of organizational management for improved performance
 HCM203  Human Resources Development and Training  This module focuses on the strategies, principles, and practices involved in developing and training employees to enhance organizational performance. Students will learn how to assess training needs, design and implement effective learning programs, and evaluate their impact on employee skills, motivation, and productivity. The module emphasizes continuous professional development, career planning, and alignment of human resource development (HRD) initiatives with organizational goals. Practical approaches to coaching, mentoring, and competency development are also explored, preparing students to foster a skilled, adaptable, and high-performing workforce.

 HCM303  Human Resources Information Systems and Technology  This module explores the role of information systems and technology in managing human resources effectively. Students will learn how HR information systems (HRIS) support core HR functions such as recruitment, payroll, performance management, training, and employee data management. The module emphasizes the design, implementation, and evaluation of HR technology solutions to improve efficiency, accuracy, and decision-making. Students will also examine emerging technologies, data analytics, and ethical considerations in HR technology, preparing them to leverage digital tools for strategic human resource management.

HCM308  Diversity Management  Ability to manage diversity provides an organization with a competitive edge over others.  At the end of the module students will be able to apply different approaches to effective management of a diversified human capital in terms of gender, culture, religion and technological differences and approaches.
 HCM401  Strategic Human Capital Management  This module helps students to identify and evaluate the major factors influencing the development of Strategic Human Capital Management and practice. Students will understand key concepts relating to the formulation and implementation of Human capital and business strategies.
 HCM402  Organisational Development and Change Management  This module explores the theories, strategies, and practices of organizational development (OD) and change management. It focuses on how organizations can adapt to internal and external challenges, improve effectiveness, and achieve strategic goals. Students will study models of change, intervention strategies, organizational culture, and methods for diagnosing and addressing performance gaps. Emphasis is placed on planning, implementing, and sustaining change initiatives while managing resistance and promoting employee engagement. Through case studies and practical exercises, students will develop the skills to lead and manage organizational change effectively.
 HCM406  Industrial Psychology  This module assists in job analysis, recruitment and selection, training and development, rewarding, performance management, staff well-being during employment as well as managing the exit. Students will be able to identify how behaviors and attitudes can be improved.

EPECBE301 Entrepreneurship, Professional Ethics Communication & Philosophy The module capacitates students with skills to organically grow enterprises through cultivating employees that are creative and innovative. These skills and knowledge are the corner stone of enterprise growth as they remove dependence on the owners to all in the organisation. Through the module organisational rejuvenation and sustainable competitiveness hence growth is guaranteed.
HCM404 Payroll and Pension Administration This module provides students with a comprehensive understanding of payroll management and pension administration within organizations. It covers the principles, policies, and procedures involved in calculating employee remuneration, managing deductions, and ensuring compliance with legal and regulatory requirements. Students will also learn about pension schemes, retirement benefits, and related financial management practices. Emphasis is placed on accuracy, efficiency, ethical considerations, and the use of technology in payroll and pension administration to support organizational effectiveness and employee satisfaction.
HCM405 Organisational Leadership This module examines the principles, styles, and practices of leadership within organizational contexts. Students will explore leadership theories, decision-making, communication, team dynamics, and ethical leadership. HCM403 Labour Law and Industrial Relations This module introduces students to the legal frameworks and practices governing employment relationships and industrial relations. It covers labor laws, trade unions, collective bargaining, dispute resolution, and the regulation of employer-employee relationships. Students will explore employment rights, responsibilities, and compliance with statutory and regulatory requirements. The module emphasizes managing workplace conflicts, promoting harmonious labour relations, and understanding the role of labour institutions and government in shaping industrial relations. HCM407 Labour Economics This module explores the economic principles and theories related to labour markets, employment, and workforce management. Students will examine the determinants of labour supply and demand, wage formation, labour productivity, and income distribution. The module also addresses issues such as unemployment, labour mobility, labour market policies, and the role of government and institutions in shaping labour markets. Through theoretical frameworks, case studies, and data analysis, students will develop the skills to analyze labor market trends,evaluate policy impacts, and make informed decisions regarding employment and workforce strategies.
HCM307 Occupational Safety, Health and Environmental Management II This module introduces students to the principles and practices of occupational safety, health, and environmental (OSHE) management in organizational settings. HCM460 Research Project This is a research project of about 10000 words based on an agreed topic, preferably of public relations significance, written over two semesters. A student initially writes and submits a research project proposal of about 3000 words that, if approved, is subsequently implemented
