Professor Makurira has extensive experience working in the water sector having worked for the Ministry of Water Resources and Development and ZINWA prior to joining the Civil Engineering Department in 2003. He specialises in aspects related to integrated water management and hydrology. He lectures water engineering courses at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. In the process, he has supervised BSc projects, MSc and PhD researches in the water engineering field. This work has led to several publications in local and international journals. He has also participated in several community projects, capacity building projects and consultancies in the region including lecturing and examining at various universities in the region and beyond.

Professor Makurira is a Fellow of the Zimbabwe Institution of Engineers and is registered as a Professional Engineer with the Engineering Council of Zimbabwe. He is also the national representative of the International Association of Hydrological Sciences (IAHS) and is currently the Chairman of the WaterNet Board of Trustees.

Present Position

Professor Makurira is an Associate Professor in the Civil Engineering Department and is currently the Dean of the Faculty of Engineering.
