Professor Mhloyi is a renowned global, regional and national Demographer. She joined the University of Zimbabwe in 1984. Prof Mhloyi is the Founder of Demography Teaching and Department of Population Studies at the University of Zimbabwe. She has vast experience in teaching all Demography courses. She has contributed to policy and programme formulation, implementation and monitoring through research which she undertook at international, regional and national levels. She has served in various boards which include inter alia: WHO Task Force of the Scientific and Ethical Review Committee; The Zimbabwe Post and Telecommunications Board of Directors; The Research Council of Zimbabwe; The Social Science Committee of the Research Council of Zimbabwe; Zimbabwe Council of Higher Education; and The National University of Science and Technology. Prof Mhloyi is a recipient of the following famous awards and honours: Distinguished Alumni Award, West Chester University Alumni Association. West Chester, Pennsylvania (1992); Bernard Berelson Mid-career Research Award, The Population Council, New York (1991); .Fulbright Professional Development Award, and The McArthur Fellowship of the Harvard Center for the Population and Development Studies (1991); The Population Council Scholarship Award, University of Pennsylvania (1983); The Rockfeller Scholarship Award, University of Pennsylvania (1980); Summa Cum Laude, BSc. West Chester State College, Pennsylvania (1980); Black student's Best Student Academic Award, West Chester State College (1980); The International WHO's WHO of Women (1993); WHO's WHO in Women in Europe (1992); Kappa Delta Pi, Honours Society for Geographers (1979); and, Pi Gamma Mu, Honours Society for Social Scientists (1979). The following are Prof Mhloyi’s academic qualifications: Ph.D. Demography (University of Pennsylvania); M.A. Demography (University of Pennsylvania); B.Sc. Teaching Social Sciences (Geography) in Secondary Schools (West Chester State College, West Chester, Pennsylvania); BA, Biblical Studies (Logos Christian College); and, Diploma, Biblical Studies (Hear the Word Ministries, Harare).
