Dr Brenda Muchabveyo

Qualifications: PhD Sociology, Rhodes University; Master of Science Degree (MSc) in Sociology and Social Anthropology, University of Zimbabwe; Bachelor of Science (BSc) Honours Degree in Sociology, University of Zimbabwe.

Bio: Dr Brenda Muchabveyo is a Full-Time lecturer in the Department of Community and Social Development, Faculty of Social and Behavioural Sciences at the University of Zimbabwe. She is a holder of a PhD in Sociology from Rhodes University (2021), MSc in Sociology and Social Anthropology (2016) and a (BSc) Hons in Sociology, both from the University of Zimbabwe. This is an addition to a Certificate: Advanced Human Rights Course on Disability Rights in the African Context from the University of Pretoria. Her doctoral study was based on the Sociology of Medicine and Alternative Healthcare in rural societies. She focused on the the Maternal Health Care Services Provided in Waiting Mothers’ Shelters in Mutasa District, Manicaland, Zimbabwe. She is currently the Programme Coordinator of MSc Gender, Social Systems and Development (MGD). She is also the Coordinator of the Anthropological Association of Students at the University of Zimbabwe. Dr Muchabveyo’s research interests revolve around Gender Studies, Public Heath, Alternative Health Care in indigenous societies, and Sexual and Reproductive Health discourses.

Research Interests: Sociology of Health and Illness; Maternal health, Gender; Disability Studies; Sexual and Reproductive Healthcare.
