Mr. Joyful Tatenda Rugare is a Weed Scientist with over nine years University Teaching experience. Mr Rugare has published nine peer reviewed journal articles. His research interest is mainly on the utilization of allelopathic plants to control weeds in arable fields as well as management of parasitic angiosperms. Mr Rugare has supervised 32 BSc Honours students and two Masters Students. In addition he has taught at the Midlands State University, Africa University and Stellenbosch University. Mr Rugare was employed as an Agronomist at ARDA Chisumbanje Estate before he became a University Lecturer and researcher. He has served as a member of the University of Zimbabwe Farm’s Board of Management, the Reformed Church Board of Business Units, and the Daisyfield Board of Trustees. Mr Rugare has also been involved extensively in promoting the adoption of the herbicide technology and Conservation Agriculture in the smallholder sector through facilitating farmer training workshops. He is a member of the South African Weed Science Society (SWSS); and is currently in his second year of study for a PhD in Agronomy at Stellenbosch University which is supported by the Carnegie Corporation of New York through RUFORUM’s Graduate Teaching Assistanship Programme (GTAP). His topic of research is on the utilization of allelopathic green manure cover crops in controlling two important arable weeds (Eleusine indica and Richardia scabra) of Zimbabwe.
