Dr Tererai Katema holds PhD in Agricultural Economics and Policy from the University of Rome, Italy. He currently serves as a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Agricultural Economics and Extension, Faculty of Agriculture, a position he has held since December 2014. He has served as Acting Chairperson in the same department from June to October 2016. As a lecturer in the Department, he has taught several courses that include Agricultural Economics, Agricultural Finance, Agribusiness Management, Agricultural Project Planning and Management, Agricultural Policy, Agricultural Development and Macroeconomics. He is currently teaching Agribusiness Management in the Department of Agricultural Economics and Extension; and Management of Agricultural Business and Dairy Agribusiness Management to masters’ students in the departments of Crop Science and Animal Science respectively. He is a dedicated teacher and a keen researcher. Dr Katema has also served the University of Zimbabwe as a member of the University of Zimbabwe Strategic Planning Committee in which he participated in the development of the University of Zimbabwe Strategic Plan (2016 – 2020).
His research activities cover productivity improvements in smallholder agriculture, agricultural value chains, business models, better farm management practices, livelihoods and agribusiness development. He supervises research activities by students, both undergraduate and post graduate. He has published one research article this year, with two others pending publication in the areas of high value crop productivity, tobacco value chains and smallholder farmer re-orientation for a business approach to farming.
