Approaches that are learner-centred and promote life-long learning will be the core of this module. This being a hands-on learning domain student will be exposed to pedagogy that promote practical activities resulting in production of tangible goods and services. |
| APE121 | Soil, Fertility and Nutrient Management | The module empowers students with the capacity to address soil fertility management issues professionally under various conditions. It imparts knowledge and skills, in students to be able to appropriately tackle soil fertility and environmental issues through rationalized and integrated soil fertility management, hence sustainable management of soils. |
| APE221 | Agronomy Fundamentals | This module delivers an overview of agronomic production systems in both dryland and irrigated crops. The module provides an understanding of selection, establishment, management and utilization of field crops. This module aims at: equipping students with the general agronomic principles, which they should apply in the production technologies of individual crops. |
| APE222 | Animal Nutrition and Nutrition Management | This module provides students with a solid grounding in animal metabolism and nutrition to allow them to develop sound, evidence-based advice to maximise the profitability, health, longevity, product quality of animals. It also gives students fundamental skills and knowledge in designing and formulating feeds for livestock. |
| HADT301 | Work Integrated Learning | This is an experiential learning experience opportunity accorded to all categories of students to enhance their graduate employability attributes. The students can attach to a company, non-profit, governmental or community-based organisation. Through direct observation, reflection and evaluation students are expected to gain an understanding of the real world of work. Further to this, students are expected to utilise their design education in helping host organisations solve their problems, where possible. The internship shall be one semester long |
| APE223 | Animal Reproductive Physiology | This module is designed to give agriculture teachers theoretical and practical frameworks on reproductive processes in domestic animals. This will enable them to teach effectively on factors of breeding management and interventions and fertility in animal production. The course covers topics on reproductive anatomy, hormonal control of reproduction and techniques of improving reproductive processes. |
| APE224 | Horticultural Plant-Propagation and Nursery | This module is an introduction to the multi-pronged module on horticulture. The module is meant to prepare students in the raising propagule essential to kick start a healthy and viable horticultural entity. The main aim is to impart production and management skills to students so that they effectively function as practical oriented Agriculture teachers in schools. |
| APE311 | Principles and Practices in Horticulture | This is a multipronged module that aims at bringing vigour in the area of pomology, olericulture, flower, grape and mushroom production. The main aim is to impart production and management skills to students so that they effectively function as practical oriented Agriculture teachers in schools. |
| HADT302 |
Teaching Practicum |
This is an experiential learning experience opportunity accorded to students with no prior teaching qualification, to practice teaching. Students will be attached to approved schools where they can get adequate mentoring by qualified teachers. The teaching practicum shall be one semester long |
| APE321 | Environmental Stewardship in Agricultural Production | The goal of environmentally sound sustainable agriculture is to utilize land, water, energy, and biological resources in an ecologically sound manner in order to produce abundant food, forage crops, and livestock as economically as possible. Knowledge of all the interacting segments in agroecosystems is essential. Improvements focus on reducing the inputs of agrochemical and other fossil energy inputs while conserving soil, water, and biological |
| APE322 |
Plant Protection |
The module is designed for students to be able to handle biotic and abiotic factors that lower crop productivity. It provides students an understanding of the nature and types of organisms that may impede negatively on crop productivity. Students study how plants are affected by microbes (diazotrophs, mycorrhizae, viruses, bacteria, fungi and nematodes), pests and weeds in crops and natural environments; epidemiology (including economic aspects) and control. The module is an anchor to all crop-related production studies. |
| APE323 |
Livestock Production |
This module is designed to meet the demands of animal production practices in beef and dairy enterprises. The aim is to equip the agriculture teacher with skills and knowledge in management of various classes of livestock, to be able to teach in schools and tertiary levels. |
| APE411 | Crop Postharvest Handling and Value Addition | The module imparts knowledge and skills relevant for appropriate handling and processing of produce. It enables students to develop sound strategies to maintain postharvest quality. To make students appreciate the need for proper handling of harvested produce. It also gives students an in-depth view on the latest insights in the biology of postharvest development, ripening and deterioration processes in fresh produce and technologies for storage, packaging and handling. |
| APE412 |
Agribusiness Management and Commodity Marketing |
This is a comprehensive module designed to give students a sound understanding of decision making and what it takes to manage an agricultural business. The students are introduced to farm finance, and operational management of agricultural resources. The module also emphasizes the application of basic economic concepts such as profit maximization, cost minimization, resource substitution, demand and supply to the production and distribution of agricultural commodities. The focus is on management and decision making but attention is also given to persistent policy issues and international trade. Methods of reducing cost and improving marketing processes; a review of the activities of government agencies and their effects on the marketing system; the role and problems of cooperatives in agricultural marketing |
| APE413 |
Farm Mechanization and Technology |
This module is designed to enable students handle competently, school curriculum in the field of farm mechanisation. It includes characterization and adoption of mechanization and technology used in plant and animal production systems. At the end of the module, students must be able to understand appreciate mechanisation and engineering practices carried out at farm level. |
| APE414 | Experimental Agriculture | The module aims at providing practicing Agriculture teachers with knowledge of the nature and structure of data and data collection, as well as descriptive and inferential statistics. It enables them to teach and supervise students at tertiary education level. |
| HADT460 | Research project | The module requires students to apply their knowledge and competences that combine science, design and technology to develop new or improve existing products that focus on innovative and responsive solutions for sustainable human development. The main focus is on applying theoretical knowledge acquired in the in other modules to design and make artefacts that respond to real life challenges identified by the students. The module therefore focuses on the entire design process, taking concepts and ideas to completion by analyzing and implementing product designs from conceptualization, to designing, manufacturing and exploring marketing opportunities. The module emphasizes the application of ‘problem-solving and design thinking’ in tackling real life needs and challenges. |
| APE421 | Apiculture and Fisheries Production | The module is designed to acquaint the student with the broad field of beekeeping and fish farming. It is meant to give students skills and a better understanding of advanced bee & fish management and an introduction to the business of the two. It is hoped that the module would open a gateway for apiculture and fishery revolution in Zimbabwe, with a cascading positive effect in horticulture. |
| APE422 |
Landscape Design |
This course aims at developing skills in designing and managing outdoor spaces that are exciting, functional and attractive to the communities that interact with them. It allows each student to gain practical experiences in design and maintenance of various landscape situations. It focuses on the development of outdoor space with emphasis on the design process and manipulation of spatial volumes. The students develop essential skills in critical thinking, providing a strong foundation in the practical, as well as theoretical, art of landscape design. |
| APE423 |
Wildlife-Heritage and Management |
The module imparts wildlife conservation consciousness to Agriculture teachers. The module equips students with both conservation and preservation techniques to perpetuate Zimbabwe’s wildlife (flora and fauna) diversity and ways of minimizing human-wildlife conflicts in communities. |
