HICH101 Physical Chemistry 1 This module is an entry level module for university physical chemistry. Both kinetics and thermodynamics are the main elements constituting the bulk of physical chemistry.
HICH102 Introduction to Inorganic Chemistry The module equips students with knowledge on atomic theory and elements of bonding. It also focuses on the study of the Periodic Table itself and the general trends in periodic and group properties of the elements. The introductory elements of coordination chemistry are also covered in this course.
HICH103 Organic Chemistry 1 The module covers the study of carbon compounds, their structure, properties, composition, reactions, and preparations. The areas covered include Stereochemistry, Systematic Aliphatic Chemistry and basic Benzene Chemistry.
HICH104 Fundamentals of Analytical Chemistry The module covers fundamentals concepts of solution chemistry, chemical composition of solutions, acid base equilibrium, solubility and solubility equilibria, redox stoichiometry, gravimetric methods of analysis and elementary treatment of data. The module also covers some introduction to practical aspects of chemical analysis.
HICH105 Introduction to Industrial chemistry This module helps the student chemist to clarify the career areas and technical problems which are to be considered when chemical reactions are carried out on a large scale. It covers the research and development of consumer products based on chemical processes. Topics covered include the chemical industry and large-scale chemical manufacturing.
HICH106 Computer Packages for Chemistry This module is an introduction to computers and surveys topics of numerical analysis that are applied to chemical problems. The second part of the module is more specialized and involves the use of the different computer packages to solve a variety of problems.
HICH107 Calculus The module is intended to enable students to acquire and become familiar with appropriate mathematical skills and techniques, develop further understanding of mathematical concepts and processes so as to improve confidence. Such mathematical concepts are important in the understanding of physical chemistry principles.
HICH108 Materials Chemistry The module is focused on understanding the relationship between the arrangement of atoms, ions and molecules of a material and the bulk physical and structural properties of that material. Students will acquire skills to synthesize and characterize  these materials
HICH201  Physical Chemistry 2  The module is an advanced study from Physical Chemistry 1. Student will have a deeper appreciation of gas-phase and solution kinetics. In addition, concepts of phase equilibria, properties of simple mixtures in solution and surface studies will be imparted.
HICH202  Inorganic Chemistry 2  The module introduces students to main group, d-block and lanthanide chemistry. In addition, students will acquire knowledge on bonding of coordination compounds in terms of the crystal field and molecular orbital theories as well as an interpretation of electronic spectra of transition metal complexes.
HICH204 Chemical Instrumentation and Analysis 1 This module will introduce students to chemical instruments used in Analytical chemistry, based on atomic spectroscopy and molecular spectroscopy. Methods covered in this module include flame and furnace atomic absorption spectrophotometry, flame emission spectroscopy, plasma emission spectroscopy, ultraviolet visible, infrared, fluorescence, phosphorescence, chemiluminescence spectrophotometry and X-Ray spectrometry.
HICH205 Fluid Flow, Heat and Mass Transfer This module imparts knowledge of the concepts and laws of fluid mechanics, and their applications in pipe sizing and flow metering. In addition, it will impart in-depth knowledge about the selection and design of fluid flow systems in process industry.
