Ashton Murwira earned a PhD in Peace Studies focusing on Civil Society in Zimbabwe. He is a senior lecturer in Political Science and International Relations in the department of Governance and Public Management. He has the capacity to develop manuals and train peace practitioners in conflict analysis and resolution. His academic knowledge and community engagement extends to foreign policy analysis, land reform and empowerment, minority rights and governance in Zimbabwe and beyond.

Dr. Zvoushe earned his degrees from the University of Zimbabwe and University of Johannesburg, South Africa. Since the beginning of his academic career in 2009 he has been with the Department of Governance and Public Management, University of Zimbabwe, starting off as a Graduate Teaching Assistant (2009-2010), Teaching Assistant (2011-2013), Lecturer (2013-2020) and now Senior Lecturer (2020-present). He desires to make his contribution towards the transformation of the Zimbabwean and African public sector at large, through his research and knowledge production, teaching, training and consultancy.

Research Interests

Public policy, African public affairs, transformative public governance, public sector reforms, and public service delivery.

Community Service

  • I developed a policy paper on Policy Gaps Undermining Fiscal Transparency in the Constituency Development Fund (CDF) for Transparency International Zimbabwe (February 2020).
  • I was part of the team that trained officials from the Zimbabwe Gender Commission and Ministry of Women Affairs on gender, peace and security in the year 2020.

Innovation

  • I am a co-author of a training manual on gender, peace and security, which was part of the UN Women Project on Gender and Macroeconomics (2019-2021).
