Dr T C Maboreke

Qualifications: Obtained his medical degree from the University of Ibadan, is Member of the Royal College of Physicians UK, Fellow of the Royal College of Pathologists UK, and founding Fellow of the College of Pathologists of East and Central Africa. His current research activities with the University of Zimbabwe are in areas of Non communicable diseases and Sickle cell disease. He is a Consultant Haematologist who investigates and looks after patients with blood diseases at Parirenyatwa group of hospitals in Harare. He also consults in Haematology and laboratory Quality assurance.

The medical undergraduate degree (MB,ChB/BDS) The unit teaches in 3rd year the MB,ChB/BDS  module of Haematology and Transfusion, comprising; White cell disorders, Red cell disorders, Platelet disorders and Haemostasis and thrombosis.

Master of Medicine in Haematology ( MMed Haematology) The unit runs this five year on the job programme, modularised into: a) Basic sciences for haematology, b) Clinical haematology, c) Laboratory haematology, d) Transfusion medicine, e) Haemostasis and thrombosis, f) Bone marrow transplantation, g) Paediatric haematology/oncology, h) Laboratory Business management and Entrepreneuership, i) Quality management systems and Ethics, j) Research dissertation, and k) Continuous assessment.

MSc in Laboratory haematology and transfusion. The unit, in conjunction with Medical Laboratory Sciences unit, runs this two year programme for laboratory scientists, modularised into, a) Basic sciences for haematology, b) Routine laboratory haematology and technologies, c) Blood cell morphology, d) Haemostasis and thrombosis, e) Haemoglobin analysis, f) Serum protein analysis, g) Immunophenotyping, h) Laboratory Genetics and molecular methods, i) Transfusion science, j) Laboratory Business management and Entrepreneuership, k) Quality management systems and Ethics, l) Research dissertation, m) Continuous

Haematology unit is known to be the only unit in the country where blood diseases including blood cancers are diagnosed and treated. The Unit is in the process of establishing the only Bone marrow transplant unit in the country and this is expected to be complete within the next two years or so.
