Vision

To be a leading Department in the discovery, generation, advancement and diffusion of knowledge and ideas in Arts Education and Curriculum Studies.

Mission

The mission of CAE is to develop graduate teachers in the Arts subjects for secondary schools and tertiary institutions and to generate, advance and diffuse knowledge in Arts Education and Curriculum Studies for sustained development of education in Zimbabwe.

General Overview of the Department

The Curriculum and Arts Education degree programmes provide students with a greater understanding of curriculum and art subject issues in the education sector within as well as outside the Zimbabwean context. The programmes prepare students for careers as high school teachers, college lecturers, university lecturers, curriculum planners, language planners, policy makers, trainer-of-trainers such that they can fit very well in government and private institutions, industry and non-governmental organisations. Graduates are prepared to research various issues related within education systems at regional, national and international levels and to exercise informed decisions by drawing from both knowledge acquired and experience.

All the programmes are offered on Full-time, Part-time and Weekend bases to suit different circumstances of prospective students.

The Department also offers Consultancy services in the following areas: Curriculum Issues, Language Education, History Education and Religious Education.
