The Environment, Climate and Sustainable Development Institute is a multi-disciplinary research unit within the Faculty of Agriculture Environment and Food Systems 

The Terms of Reference of the Environment Climate and Sustainable Development The Terms of Reference of the Environment Climate and Sustainable DevelopmentInstitute (ECSDI) are to:

1. Produce multi-disciplinary Doctoral Fellowships funded through competitiveProduce multidisciplinary Doctoral Fellowships funded through competitive processes on addressing topical issues on Environment, Climate andSustainable Development.

2. Produce defining technical publications that provide evidence of problems andor solutions much sought after in the sub-national, national, regional and international discourse for Sustainable Development. 

3. Provide a platform for imparting skills on research and development practice provide a platform for imparting skills on research and development practiceand engagement of industry and communities.

4. Develop methodologies and approaches for assessment of diverse environmental and development issues of monitoring and evaluation in multi-environmental and development issues of monitoring and evaluation in multi-disciplinary settings.

5.Design,develop and publish on behalf of the University, awareness materials. Design, develop and publish on behalf of the University, awareness materials and literature that speak to nationally prioritised environment and developmentissues in collaboration with Government and other regional and international agencies.

6.Provide leadership in the coordination of University academics for participation Provide leadership in the coordination of University academics for participation in national and international dialogue and discourses to which the nation requires technical support.

7.Provide a feedback mechanism to University teaching Departments, Units and Provide a feedback mechanism to University teaching Departments, Units and Research Institutions on critical relevant issues that arise from diverse businessand development interventions that impact on the environment (linked todevelopment of effective environmental impact assessment tools and frameworks). 

8.Directly partake and advise on University needs areas that relate to sustainable environmental management.
