Prof Chirenda is the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences Clinical Deputy Dean and an Infectious Diseases Specialist. He holds a Bachelors’ Degree in Medicine and Surgery, Masters in Public Health and a Doctor of Philosophy in Molecular Biology from the Stellenbosch University. His research interest is in Tuberculosis, HIV, Malaria and Occupational Medicine. In addition to teaching and mentoring undergraduate and postgraduate students, he is a member of the Medical and Dental Practitioners Council (MDPCZ) where he chairs the Research and Development sub-committee. Prof Chirenda has extensive experience in consulting on drug resistant tuberculosis, malaria, maternal and reproductive health and health systems strengthening in Zimbabwe and Africa. Other relevant work experience as a senior medical officer in the Zimbabwe Ministry of Health and Child Care and Botswana Ministry of Health. He enjoys playing squash.
