Mrs Makamure holds a Master’s in Business Administration and BSc. Honours in Sociology degrees from the University of Zimbabwe, and a Diploma in Personnel Management from the Institute of People Management in Zimbabwe. She boasts of over 20 years of relevant professional working experience in both the public and private sectors in Zimbabwe. Before joining the University of Zimbabwe, she served, among others, as Managing Consultant at Workplace Solutions Pvt. REPORTING THE DEATH OF A MEMBER OF STAFF
The Human Resources Department must be notified immediately with regards to the date, cause and time of death of a staff member.
The following events will be actioned once this memorandum is processed:
- A notice of death is prepared by Human Resources for the Information, Protocol and Public Relations for publication purposes.
- Immediate payment of an ex-gratia gratuity to the dependent(s) of the deceased staff member by University of Zimbabwe.
- Death in service benefits and payments.

Ex gratia gratuity
The University pays the dependant(s) of a deceased member of staff one month’s salary, funeral assistance and cash in lieu of balance of ordinary leave days to assist with immediate expenses (this is a gift and is not recoverable). This gratuity is only paid if the staff member dies before the retirement age specified in his/her employment contract.
RETIREMENT
This is normal retirement age whereby the employment contract ends at the end of the year in which the staff member turns 65, as stipulated in the rules of the University of Zimbabwe Pension Fund.
Early retirement
Early retirement arises when a staff member applies for retirement before the year in which he/she turns 65. A staff member may elect to retire at any time after attaining the age of 55 years, provided that he/she gives the required notice, and that the Vice Chancellor approves such retirement.
At the age of 55 the normal early retirement process will be initiated including the commencement of retirement benefits.
Appointment on Post Retirement for Academic Staff
- The appointment of an individual after the age of 65 will not normally be possible but may be approved subject to certain conditions.
- The appointment of an individual after early retirement is possible, subject to certain conditions.
- The appointment of an individual after the age of 65 will not normally be possible. It may however take place on final approval by the Vice Chancellor.

Staff Identification Cards
The University Council stipulates that every permanent member of staff should be issued with a valid UZ identity card bearing his/her photograph, surname, first names and department.
Staff are required to carry the identity card with them at all times while on University property and to produce it when asked to do so by an officer of the Security Department or any other authorised member of the University community.
Staff taking up employment with the University for the first time, may collect an identity card from the Staff Development and Welfare office located in room 128 of the Administration Building on the main Campus. The operating hours are: 08h00 - 16h30 (week days ONLY).
In the event of a staff member losing his/her card, a replacement card may be requested at a cost of USD10. Payment must be made by cash to the cashier at the Bursars Department. Proof of payment must be presented to Staff Development and Welfare Office before the lost card is replaced with a new one.
Staff leaving the employ of the University must surrender their staff card to the HR Department

Staff vehicle parking
Staff who wish to park their motor vehicles on any University campus must obtain a parking disc from the Department of Security. The fee for the parking disc is USD2-00.
