MSC IN SUPPLY CHAIN SYSTEMS DESIGN AND APPLICATION (MSCM)

Module CodeModule NameDescription
MSCSDA501 Strategic Supply Chain Management Strategic supply chain management concerns the effective design and long-term planning of a network of interconnected businesses involved in the provision of products and services to the end-users. This subject introduces students to the philosophy of supply chain management with the main focus placed on how to view the supply chain as a strategic asset. A broad range of topics is covered including supply chain network design, integrated supply chain planning and optimisation, supply chain performance analysis, strategic sourcing and supplier management, lean supply chains, sustainable supply chain practices, and supply chain uncertainty
MSCSDA502 Strategic Logistics Management Infrastructure and planning techniques for moving, storing, and distributing goods and services on a global scale. Topics include customer service management, transportation, vehicle routing, distribution, e-commerce, network design, forecasting, inventory, logistics technologies, change management, and emerging logistics trends.
MSCSDA503 Strategic Sourcing and Procurement This course focuses on the management of the procurement of goods and services from a strategic perspective. Topics include procurement as a strategic function; key procurement issues such as outsourcing, sourcing strategies and relationships, total cost of ownership, inventory management and negotiations; and applications of procurement such as procurement of commodities, international and global sourcing, capital procurement, efficient consumer response, services procurement and corporate social responsibility and e-procurement and contract management. The concepts and strategies taught in the subject enable the students to strategize the organisations' procurement practices in an effective and efficient manner to gain competitive advantage.
MSCSDA504 Procurement Law and Relationship Management This module covers legal frameworks governing procurement, contract management, and supplier relationships.  Students explore procurement regulations, contract terms, dispute resolution and strategies for effective supplier relationship management, ensuring compliance and value creation in business partnerships.
MSCSDA509 Supply Chain Programming and Modelling Programming techniques, applying using procedural paradigm: introduction to hardware, software and application software: solving problems using programming; Program development process. Flow charts, algorithms and pseudocode. Compiling and running programs:  understanding the complier: data types.  Constants. Operators and arithmetic in control structures, repetition, selection, iteration, testing and debugging: modular programming and procedures, parameter passing.  Local and global variables, functions and recursion, modular compilation of programs: data types and data structures: arrays.  Records and sets: input and output processing using files: dynamic data structures.
MSCSDA506 Supply Chain Risk Management Risk and complexity in supply chains are key issues encountered by industry in the current volatile environment. Thus, students are provided with a variety of skills to manage
MSCSDA507  Enterprise Resource Planning  This course aims to develop a critical understanding of operation, structure and implementation issues around enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems as used in industry. Students learn how a typical ERP system works using an up-to-date SAP training package and consider the real-life use of a typical software package within an organisation. The course covers: Business Excellence; What is ERP? Business Planning and Control; Expected Benefits; How does ERP work? ERP Pre-Requisites; Selecting the right system; Implementation Planning.
MSCSDA508  Supply Chain Finance  This module explores financial strategies and solutions for optimizing supply chain operations.  Topics include trade finance, invoice management, risk mitigation and collaborative funding approaches, enabling students to understand how financial flows impact supply chain efficiency and sustainability.
MSCSDA505  Business Research Methods  Introduction to business research—the importance, issues, complexities and challenges; designing and implementing business research project—the research proposal, the research process and report writing; primary and secondary data sources; survey and non-survey data collection techniques; assessing differences in the structure of variables—cluster analysis, multidimensional scaling, regression analysis, factor analysis, confirmatory factor analysis, etc.; qualitative data analysis—manual and using software e.g. NVIVO, ATLASti, etc.
MSCSDA510  Supply Chain Analytics  Modelling and simulation applications for supply chains. Topics include mathematical programming, Monte Carlo and discrete event simulation, resource allocation, network design, simulating discrete and continuous processes, conducting simulation studies, and interpreting results.
