This module examines the concepts and structures governing the design and implementation of programming languages. One major outcome is for students to be able to express syntax and semantics in formal notation, apply suitable programming paradigms and understand high level language design and implementation. Upon completion, students should be able to manage files with operating system commands, use top-down algorithm design, implement algorithmic solutions in a programming language and write small programs that allow them to accomplish useful goals

This module explores the design and implementation of computer operating systems.Topics include historical aspects of operating systems development, systems programming, process scheduling, synchronization of concurrent processes, deadlocks, virtual machines, memory management, virtual memory and paging, I/O and file systems, system security, os/architecture interaction, and distributed operating systems. Upon completion, a student must be able to apply different optimization techniques to improve the performance of the system.

The module covers fundamental security concepts and secure electronic transactions and also discusses the relevance of security in operating system and web services. On completion, a student must be able to recognize common threats, design a secure system and identify software vulnerabilities and develop a secure web service.

This module introduces and discusses the fundamentals of Discrete Mathematics as applied to Computer Science, focusing on providing a basic theoretical foundation for further work. Students are exposed to logic and proof techniques, set theory, elementary number theory, functions and relations, graphs, trees, modelling computations and abstract algebra. This module integrates symbolic tools, graphical concepts, and numerical calculations. Techniques of counting: permutations, combinations, recurrences, algorithms are also covered.

This module studies the basic instruction set architecture and organization of a modern computer. Topics include Assembly language, The Von Neumann Machine Instructions, Registers, translating high level arithmetic into Assembly, Memory and Registers Addressing Modes, Logic Gates, Truth Tables, implementing Truth Tables, Latches and Memory Reading, Multicycle implementations, the concept of a Cycle. This module introduces the principles and practices of securing modern operating systems. It examines common operating system architectures and the security mechanisms used to protect system resources against threats and vulnerabilities. Topics include access control models, authentication and authorization, process and memory protection, file system security, secure booting, virtualization security, and operating system hardening. The module also covers malware, exploits, patch management, logging and auditing, and incident response at the operating system level. Students gain practical skills in configuring, securing, and assessing the security of operating systems in enterprise and networked environments.

The module focuses on concepts and principles related to database management systems and link these to Relational Database Systems. Students must design entity relationship and convert entity relationship diagrams into relational database management systems (RDBMS) and formulate Structured Query Language (SQL) queries on the respect data as well as apply normalization for the development of application software.

The module gives the students practical experience in applying Software Life Cycle Models, standards and technologies. Object Oriented Analysis and Design using the Unified Modeling Language (UML) to capture Requirements, Model User Interactions and Business Process, Verification and Validation, Implementation and Integration Issues, Reuse Concepts and Maintenance.

Overview and Introduction to Coding Theory, which introduces basic coding concepts and decoding strategies. Students should be able to design and analyze data compression techniques with varying efficiencies as per requirements design an optimum decoder for various coding schemes used. The module introduces the fundamental concepts of coding theory used for reliable and secure data transmission and storage. It covers basic principles of information theory, error detection and error correction techniques, and the construction and analysis of codes. Topics include linear block codes, parity checks, Hamming codes, cyclic codes, convolutional codes,and an introduction to modern coding techniques. The module also examines encoding and decoding algorithms, performance analysis of codes, and practical applications of coding theory in digital communications, data storage, and cryptographic systems. Students develop an understanding of how coding techniques enhance data integrity and reliability in communication systems.

The module also covers secure network programming practices, including encryption, authentication, and protection against common network-based attacks. The module also explores algorithms for integer factorization, primality testing, and modular exponentiation. Applications of number theory in cryptography, coding theory, and computer security are highlighted, enabling students to develop a strong mathematical foundation for advanced studies in cybersecurity and related fields.

The module entails Services, Mechanisms And Attacks that are present in network systems. There should be real understanding of the OSI Security Architecture-Network Security Model Classical Encryption Techniques. Students will have to understand basic theories in Finite fields and number theory and as well know different block and stream cipher models. At the end of this module the students are required to have skills in the analysis and use of cryptography methods, use the various techniques used in the establishment of security properties and account for Cryptographic theories.

The students work in a group to produce a working Product including a Project Proposal, a Project Plan, a System Specification, User Documentation and perform Project Management Activities to ensure the product is delivered on time. The Implementation includes Developing the Product, Testing and Evaluation and Presentation. This module provides students with an opportunity to work collaboratively to design, develop, and deliver a practical solution to a real-world problem in computing or cybersecurity. Students apply knowledge and skills acquired in earlier modules to undertake project planning, system analysis, design, implementation, testing, and documentation within a team environment. The module emphasizes teamwork, project management, communication, and professional practice. Assessment is based on the quality of the project deliverables, teamwork, and a formal presentation or report demonstrating the achieved outcomes.

This module introduces learners to the principles, architectures, and applications of blockchain technologies. It examines distributed ledger systems, cryptographic foundations, consensus mechanisms, and smart contracts. Students will explore public, private, and consortium blockchains, with emphasis on security, scalability, and governance. The module also analyses real-world blockchain use cases across finance, supply chains, healthcare, and public sector systems. Practical activities expose learners to blockchain platforms and decentralized application development. Ethical, legal, and regulatory implications of blockchain adoption are critically assessed.Indicative content includes hashing, digital signatures, Merkle trees, blockchain data structures, and consensus protocols (PoW, PoS, PBFT). Learners analyse blockchain threats and vulnerabilities such as 51% attacks, Sybil attacks, double spending, and smart contract exploits. The module covers secure smart contract development, blockchain forensics, privacy-preserving techniques, and regulatory compliance. Practical labs and projects focus on penetration testing, security auditing, and designing robust blockchain-based cybersecurity solutions.

Emphasis is placed on experiential learning, reflective practice, and professional development. Assessment is based on industrial supervision, a logbook, and a comprehensive industrial attachment report.

On completion, students should be able Demonstrate how to draft a digital forensics report for the appropriate audience as well as knowledge on copyright issues of software.

This module will cover; Cloud Computing Fundamental: Cloud Computing definition, private, public and hybrid cloud. Cloud types; IaaS, PaaS, SaaS. The module is designed to provide the student with a foundation for the study and professional career development in the field of information systems auditing and assurance services. The module will introduce the fundamentals of IS auditing and assurance services, core reasons why IS auditing is a specialized area of auditing, evolution of IS assurance, and the principle objectives of IS auditing and assurance services. The module will also address career and skill and knowledge development. Also involves management’s goals and concerns regarding the security, integrity and availability of IS systems. The module will emphasize business management issues regarding the security and control of IS and the achievement of value through managed IS processes. Over the module, students will gain a working familiarity with CobiT, which is the principle control model for IT governance and control. Students will also be introduced to control evaluation techniques and a number of the primary references used by IT professionals and IT auditors regarding IT management and control.

This module marks the first phase of the capstone project and focuses on project initiation, planning, and system design. Students identify a relevant problem in cybersecurity or computing, conduct a literature review, and define project objectives and scope. Activities include requirements analysis, methodology selection, system or solution design, and preparation of a detailed project proposal. Emphasis is placed on research skills, critical analysis, project planning, and professional documentation under academic supervision.The Capstone Design Project involves supervision. This project is intended for the student to demonstrate skills acquired to develop systems for an organization of their choice. Candidates must be able to demonstrate the highest level of innovation.

This module is a continuation of Capstone Project 1 and focuses on the implementation, testing, and evaluation of the proposed solution. Students develop a functional system or conduct applied research based on the approved design, followed by testing, validation, and performance evaluation. Assessment is based on the completed project, a comprehensive written report, and an oral presentation demonstrating the achievement of project objectives and professional standards.
