Theories to be learnt include the I-Space model, Gardner’s Theory of Multiple Intelligences and Sternberg’s Balance Theory of Wisdom. This will help students in developing an asset management and knowledge strategy for organisational effectiveness. |

The module covers ethical and professional issues that arise in the context of designing and using networked information technologies and information resources. Frameworks for making ethical decisions, emergent technologies and their ethical implications on information professionalism will be examined. Students will be able to develop guidelines for ethical use of information products in support of the production of quality and relevant research outputs. |

This module builds on the notions and approaches to the study of the Knowledge Society in the context of globalisation and the explosion of information. Knowledge Management Practices and Implementation |
This module covers approaches to knowledge management practices as well as explore application examples with focus on people-process-technology issues, enterprise knowledge portals, communities of practice, after action reviews, knowledge cafés, bench marking and best practices, organisational learning, and incentive programmes. Success stories and lessons on knowledge management practices learnt from industry will be examined. Students will develop knowledge management strategies that ensure organisational profitability, survival and sustainability of organisations. |

Students will understand the new knowledge-intensive economic units such as human capital and social capital intellectual assets, intellectual property, brands and trademarks. Students will adopt a holistic approach to intellectual assets management from creation, codification, valuation, protection and leveraging of intellectual assets for improved productivity. |

Knowledge Management Technologies |
The module focuses on knowledge management (KM) tools, assessing organisational and technological readiness and developing a KM infrastructure and architecture. Students acquire knowledge on selection and evaluation of KM tools including content management, business intelligence, search engines, intelligent agents, mind mapping and idea processors, taxonomy builders, enterprise knowledge portals, collaboration and learning systems. Students will develop a Management Information System (MIS) to effectively manage information and knowledge assets in support of innovation for industrialisation. |

Information Mining and Analysis |
The module will equip students with the principles and concepts of knowledge discovery processes, data mining and data preparation. Students will learn the techniques and methods for extracting information and knowledge from large amounts of data and be able to analyse the data using statistical methods. The module also incorporates research impact measurement tools such as bibliometric, informetrics, altmetrics. Students will harness text and web mining for unstructured data and data mining for KM applications in support of data-driven development. |

Indigenous Knowledge Systems |
The module examines the significance of indigenous knowledge systems from historical and developmental perspectives, placing the systems in the context of modern knowledge systems. Students will understand how information and knowledge management practitioners can embrace all forms of knowledge systems. The students will apply indigenous knowledge systems to the heritage-based philosophy in support of the modernisation agenda. Students will develop skills to incorporate and synthesise indigenous knowledge systems to support innovation and industrialisation. |

Research Methods |
This module will enable students to advance their understanding of research methodology. The module explores the language of research, ethical principles and challenges, and the elements of the research process within quantitative, qualitative, and mixed methods approaches. The module will enable students to use various theoretical underpinnings to critically review literature relevant to their field or interests; and determine how research findings are useful in forming their understanding of their work, social, local and global environment. |

Dissertation |
Students will produce an original and academic written scientific work on creative, problem-based and product-based original research. The aim of the dissertation is for students to come up with research-based solutions to practice, product development and service in Information Science and Knowledge Management. The students will engage in this self-directed research work, under the supervision of a member of staff, on a topic of their choice in Information Science and Knowledge Management. The students will be expected to demonstrate the implications of their final research output to policy, practice, service enhancement, product development and innovation in the discipline of Information Science and Knowledge Management. |

Students will understand the entrepreneurial processes when starting a new venture to create value with information armed with; knowledge of information technologies and knowledge of how to launch and grow a successful enterprise. The module also explores the development of business models, creation of venture teams, and marketing, sales and financial plans. Students are expected to develop efficient Knowledge Management business operations models, start new businesses focusing on information and knowledge management that attract financial support, partners, investors, staff, suppliers, and customers.

Students will acquire knowledge and skills needed to effectively utilise information systems and technology in support of organisational strategy and solving business problems. Students will be exposed to information systems in organisations; strategy and information systems leadership; databases; the Internet and social media; enterprise resource planning and business applications; e-business; knowledge management; developing and implementing information systems; security and information systems auditing.

This module encompasses strategic decisions on innovation. It will give an understanding of why firms innovate and what role innovation plays in shaping the strategic decisions of companies. Students will learn how to source innovation, the types and patterns of innovation, how to compete in dynamic standards battles, how to gain dominance, and how to protect innovation from imitation. |

Research Data Management |
Students will learn how to effectively manage data, analyse research outputs, increase the impact of research, and support open scientific inquiry. Learners will be better equipped to manage data throughout the entire research data lifecycle, from project planning to the end of the project when data ideally are shared and made available within a trustworthy repository. Students will design and execute research data management programmes and services that support research productivity. This module covers data management and the curation of knowledge that supports the long-term preservation, access, and reuse of research data. |
