MASTER OF SCIENCE NETWORK ENGINEERING (MNE)

Module CodeModule NameDescription

MNE501

Internetworking

Focuses on the architecture, protocols, and technologies used to connect multiple networks into a seamless global system. It covers advanced routing (OSPF, BGP), switching, and the complex interplay between the different layers of the OSI model in enterprise environments.

MNE502

Wireless Networks

Explores the principles of radio frequency communication, mobile networking standards (Wi-Fi 6, 5G), and cellular architectures. The course covers signal propagation, modulation, wireless security protocols, and the design of high-density wireless deployments.

MNE503

Software Defined Networking (SDN) and

Network Functions Virtualization (NFV)

Covers the shift from hardware-centric to software-centric networking. It examines the separation of the control plane from the data plane (SDN) and the virtualization of traditional hardware appliances like firewalls and load balancers into software instances (NFV).

MNE504

Networked Systems Security

A deep dive into protecting data in transit and at rest within a network. Key topics include encryption algorithms, VPNs, firewalls, Intrusion Detection/Prevention Systems (IDS/IPS), and securing network infrastructure against common attack vectors.

MNE505

Ethical Hacking

Teaches the methodologies and tools used by "white hat" hackers to identify vulnerabilities. Students learn penetration testing phases—reconnaissance, scanning, gaining access, and maintaining access—to better defend systems by thinking like an attacker.

MNE506

System Administration and Security

Focuses on the management of server operating systems (Linux/Windows) and the implementation of security policies at the OS level. It covers user access control, automation through scripting, patch management, and server hardening techniques.

MNE507

Audit and Security

Focuses on the governance and compliance side of IT. It teaches how to evaluate a company’s security posture against frameworks (like ISO 27001), perform risk assessments, and ensure that technical controls align with legal and business requirements.

MNE508

Cloud Computing

Examines the delivery of computing services over the internet, covering models such as IaaS, PaaS, and SaaS. It focuses on virtualization, cloud architecture (AWS, Azure), distributed storage, and the specific security challenges of shared-responsibility environments.

MNE509

Internetworking

Focuses on the architecture, protocols, and technologies used to connect multiple networks into a seamless global system. It covers advanced routing (OSPF, BGP), switching, and the complex interplay between the different layers of the OSI model in enterprise environments.

MNE510

Research Methods

Prepares students for academic and industrial research by teaching quantitative and qualitative data collection, literature review techniques, and how to formulate a valid research hypothesis or technical problem statement.

MNE560

Dissertation

The capstone project of the MSc program. Students conduct original research or develop a complex technical solution to a specific problem in network engineering, culminating in a comprehensive written thesis and a formal defense.
