MASTER OF EDUCATION SPORTS SCIENCE (MESS)
| Module Code | Module Name | Description |
|---|---|---|
| EDU504 | Curriculum Development, Innovation and Industrialisation | The module covers curriculum innovation and industrialisation models and approaches. In-depth theoretical, ethical principles and criteria underpinning curriculum modification, industrialisation and curriculum management of learners in a changing world will be explored. The topics to be covered include; the concept curriculum, elements of the curriculum, foundations of the curriculum, curriculum planning models, curriculum development process, curriculum design, curriculum implementation models and strategies, curriculum change and innovation and curriculum evaluation. The module aims at producing professionals who will contribute meaningfully to curriculum design and development. |
| EDU505 | Advanced Tools for Educational Research | The module provides students with grounding in the Philosophy of Science as a foundation and equips them with advanced knowledge in educational research. It provides them with concepts and skills in statistics and capacity to use current computer packages such as SPSS and NVIVO to analyse both quantitative and qualitative data. Overall, the research module should prepare students with adequate knowledge and skills that enable them to embark on local and international research in the visual arts that informs policy and practice. |
| EDU506 | Philosophy of Science | Conceptualisation of sciences and the development of scientific thinking among learners is important in successfully driving the economy of any nation today and for the achievement of national development goals. The module focuses on curricula and pedagogies that are true to the nature of sciences, consistent with desired educational aims and align with developmentally appropriate practices in the education of young learners. Emphasis will be placed on a framework for the natural sciences which includes principles of inquiry, problem- solving activities and teaching practices that link sciences to society and the physical environment. |
| MESS511 | Physical Education and Sport Management | This module analyses and discusses the social and ethical issues, trends and government regulations and how each applies to physical education and sports management. It exposes the students to practical application and working knowledge of sports and sports-related activities and the components of fitness and wellness. |
| MESS521 | Physical Education & Sport Psychology |
This module enables students to apply psychological principles and practices to learning performance and associated human behaviour in sports and exercise. It also exposes students to how psychology influences performance and participation in sports |
| MESS522 | Sport and Exercise Physiology | This module exposes students to how the body functions during exercise and using scientific principles to allow the body to train better, perform better and recover quicker. Through this module students will be able to how the body responds and adapts to physical stress during and after sports and exercise. This understanding will enable them to effectively and efficiently apply exercise physiology principles |
| MESS523 | Biomechanics in Sport and Exercise | This is the module that will train students to analyse sport movements in order to minimize the risk of injury and improve sports performance. It encompasses the science concerned with analysis of mechanics of human movement. It helps students to understand and manage forces and their effects during sports and exercise. |
| MESS524 | Adaptive Physical Education and Sports | Through this module students will apply current principles and practices in physical education and sport for participants with disabilities and help them get the most out of their participation in sports. It gives the students increased emphasis on best practices and applications for successful inclusion in sports by the disabled. |
| MESS570 | Dissertation | This is a practice-based research that exhibits the student’s knowledge and skills in the in Sports and Exercises provided for in related institutions. It is the climax of the student’s ability to profer practical solutions and document them in diverse ways. Students will demonstrate use of experimental and practical methodologies. |
