BCLL102 Design, Development and Delivery of Instruction The module equips the trainees with the knowledge, skills and competencies required to design, develop and deliver instruction efficiently and effectively at their organisations.
BCLL 101 Foundations of Lifelong Learning The course aims to expose learners to the meaning, functions and roles of Lifelong Learning in any society as well as the appropriate methodologies to be employed in lifelong learning. It seeks to define and separate the learning of adults from that of children and how facilitators should appropriately implement different methodological approaches depending on the stage of learners in the Lifelong Learning Continuum. It brings to the fore the different contexts in which learning takes place; formal education, non-formal education, informal education, and continuing education. By and large, the course aims to equip learners with the knowledge, skills and attitudes of how Lifelong learning has contributed to development in Zimbabwe and how these foundational skills could be improved to inform Education 5.0.
BSCID106 Introduction to Social Innovation At the end of the course, students should be able to identify problems with communities and develop social innovation frameworks and guidelines for supporting less privileged and vulnerable members of society in different fields such as education; social protection; leadership/governance; health; transport; energy; droughts; climate change; epidemics; floods. It achieves this by introducing students to social innovation theories and enables them to develop and deploy effective solutions to challenging and often systemic social and environmental issues in support of social progress. While the custom has been to make social innovation the privilege of few elites in society, this course enables students to engage in multi-stakeholder engagement. These are necessary for community buy-in, share ideas and produce goods that add social value, switching roles and relationships (gender focus); as well as synergies involving Private Public and Community Partnerships.
BCLL103 Understanding Society, Ethics and Etiquette The module highlights the role education plays in any society to understand the people and their ways of life and the ways of doing things, focusing on what is acceptable in the different communities in terms of ethics and philosophy. Learners will be empowered with knowledge of sociological concepts and theories and how various social institutions in society function. The module also looks at the role of adult development in any society, which is to understand the way of life of the communities and aims to support communities to solve their problems. Lifelong learning is particularly crucial in a democracy where it is important to understand issues so that one can participate in doing tasks such as voting or starting or joining groups trying to change some aspect of society.  
BCLL104 Gender Studies Human Rights & Lifelong Learning The module empowers the learners with knowledge and skills that enable them to be gender sensitive in the society including the workplace. Content covered include understanding gender, theories of gender inequalities, historical development of gender, gender analysis, gender issues in society, redressing gender imbalances, empowerment and strategies for creating a gender responsive environment. In addition, learners will analyse issues of gender in education, health, media, business, war and other arenas.
BCLL105 Administration & Organization of Lifelong Learning

The module explains lifelong learning programmes, programme planning methods and lifelong learning providing agencies and their programmes. The module also differentiates between the school curricula and lifelong learning. The module also states different ways of communicating information in an administrative setting and explain advantages and disadvantages of them. The module compares efficiency and effectiveness of administration in government, voluntary and private agencies.In this module, students are expected to explore the meaning of supervision and management concepts. The employer and employee relationship is also examined. The various supervision styles are explored with a view of helping the adult learners come up with effective administration in their organisations.

Social & Behavioural Theory

This interdisciplinary module introduces students to foundational concepts in the social and behavioural sciences, spanning Sociology, Social Work, Psychology, Demography, Political Science, Public Policy, and Lifelong Learning. It equips students with analytical tools, values, and competencies to study human behaviour and society through the lens of social and behavioural theory. Emphasis is placed on theorising as a practical activity, encouraging students to critically apply theory to issues affecting individuals, groups, communities, and societies. The module also serves as preparation for professional practice, fostering skills for engaging with policy, politics, economics, and knowledge production as emerging social scientists.

This module equips learners with essential personal, social, and professional skills to thrive in academic and everyday life. It focuses on self-awareness, emotional intelligence, communication, critical thinking, problem-solving, and responsible decision-making. Students will also develop practical competencies such as time management, teamwork, leadership, and adaptability, preparing them to navigate challenges and opportunities in both personal growth and future careers.

Information & Digital Skills (University Wide Module)

The Information and Digital Skills module develop learners’ ability to find, assess, and use information effectively while building confidence with digital tools. It covers online research, data management, communication, and collaboration, emphasizing ethical and responsible practices. By completion, learners can critically engage with digital resources across academic, professional, and everyday settings.
LAICSBND100 Language Acquisition And Intercultural Communication  Intercultural Communication For Social And Behavioural Sciences - NDEBELE  This module provides students with a foundation in spoken Ndebele and introduces basic aspects of Ndebele linguistic structure. A conversational approach will be adopted, with students spending a significant amount of time on oral practice. It is a university-wide module designed to meet the needs of non- Ndebele -speaking students. The module seeks to contribute to the branding of the UZ graduate by responding to the needs of industry and society, producing graduates who are able to communicate effectively with local communities where language may otherwise be a barrier to access and success. Together with its cultural corollary, the module offers specialist communicative training for individuals working or intending to work with language across various programmes and within different communities. The module will also function as a language clinic, providing learners with opportunities to seek clarification on issues related to Ndebele language learning as well as broader Ndebele socio-cultural matters. Ndebele is an official language and the second most widely spoken language in Zimbabwe.  It belongs to the Nguni subgroup of the Bantu language family, which implies a degree of mutual intelligibility between Zimbabwean Ndebele and other Nguni languages such as Zulu, Xhosa, Swati and South African Ndebele. These languages are spoken by more than 40 million people across South Africa, Eswatini and Zimbabwe.
 BCLL201  History of Lifelong learning  The module equips the trainees with the knowledge, skills and competencies required to design, develop and deliver instruction efficiently and effectively at their organisations.
 BCLL203  Philosophical Principles and Applications in Lifelong learning  The course aims to equip Bachelor Science Honours Community Education and Lifelong Learning students with knowledge of educational philosophies and explore how these can be used in the design, development and delivery of instruction in lifelong learning programmes, be it formal or formal programmes. The implication to practice in Lifelong learning is emphasized in all the philosophies so that students understand the purpose of education, the role of the facilitator, the role of the learner, the nature of the curriculum, and the methodologies to be adopted in each and every philosophy. Emphasis is also put on how these philosophies intersect with Education 5.0 and aspects that the latter can adopt for improvement. The module covers Eurocentric Educational Philosophies; Liberalism, progressivism, behaviorism, humanism and radicalism. The module also philosophies of African Thought; Ethnophilosophy, Nationalist Ideological Philosophy, Professional Philosophy, Ubuntu and Philosophic Sagacity and their implications to the practice of lifelong learning
 BCLL204  Issues in Lifelong learning  Issues in Lifelong Learning emphasizes the utilization of knowledge, skills and attitudes acquired from BCLL 101: Foundations of Lifelong Learning.  The two Modules are viewed as sequential and progressive.  Critical and topical issues in the educational debate in general, and Lifelong Learning in particular, are identified and reflected upon.
 BCLL206  Principles and Practices of Community Development & Engagement in Lifelong Learning  The aim of the module is that learners should conceptualize what development is all about, understand different perspectives of development; and implement micro development practices in their areas of expertise. The module will help candidates to profile the tenets of development in third world countries; narrate development theories; identify players in the development paradigm; and determine global development trends.
 BCLL205  Organizational Behaviour and Management of Personnel in Lifelong Learning  The module seeks to equip learners with supervision and management skills. These are necessary for the development of efficient and effective employees. In this module, learners are expected to explore management theories, meaning of supervision and management concepts. The employer and employee relationship is also examined. The structure of the supervisor’s job is explained; the worries of a supervisor and various supervision styles are explored with a view of helping the adult learners come up with effective administration in their organisations.
 BCLL 207  Programme Planning Implementation & Evaluation in Lifelong Learning  This module exposes learners to a growing body of knowledge and techniques for planning and managing Lifelong education Projects which keeps pace with the dynamic and expanding field of Lifelong education. The basis for programming, the concept of programme and the different types of programmes are explored. Learners develop a working philosophy based on their beliefs about education, learning, the learner, the programmer and programme development. They develop concepts for effective programme development.

 This module engages with the emergence of Social Science Research Methods and their need to deal with unique experiences, meanings making processes and interpretations of people and thus of society. At the end of the module students should be able to conduct qualitative research to inform policies and development initiatives.
 LAICSBPO200  Language Acquisition And Intercultural Communication For Social And Behavioural Sciences -PORTUGUESE  The module seeks to (a) develop four essential Portuguese language skills: listening, speaking, reading and writing, enabling effective cross-cultural and intercultural communication and (b) equip students with the skills and competency levels required to attain the A2 level of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR). This will be achieved through extensive individual and group work on grammar and content, general and discipline-specific vocabulary, language structure and analysis. The module also develops intercultural competencies by incorporating aspects of the culture and civilisation of Portuguese-speaking territories, allowing for a holistic multilingual and intercultural communication experience.
 BCLL306  Principles and Practices of Open and Distance Education and e-learning  The module develops in learners a systematic and scholarly approach to understand the concept, origins and development of distance education and the theories underpinning distance education. In addition, learners will be empowered with skills to analyse different organisational models in the provision of distance education and application of principles and practices in distance education the field of lifelong education will be explored.
 BCLL301  Entrepreneurship and Management for Retirement Planning  The module capacitates students with skills to organically grow enterprises through cultivating employees that are creative and innovative. These skills and knowledge are the corner stone of enterprise growth as they remove dependence on the owners to all in the organisation.Through the module organisational rejuvenation and sustainable competitiveness hence growth is guaranteed.
BCLL302 Occupational Health in the Workplace This module aims to equip students with core competencies and functionality to promote a high level of physical, mental social and spiritual wellbeing in the working environment and beyond, and instil working cultures which support health and safety. Students should develop to professionals with a strong research focus to augment occupational health practice into an evidence based inter disciplinary practice.
 SDLSSB301  Student Development Life Skills  The module introduces students to the use of information technologies and their application in academic research. The module is offered over a period of 4 years under the Faculty of Engineering and Communication.

BCLL380 Industrial Attachment Industrial Attachment provides learners with supervised, hands-on practical experience in a real-world organizational or community development setting. The module bridges theory and practice by allowing students to apply knowledge and skills acquired during their studies to professional environments. It focuses on experiential learning, workplace ethics, problem-solving, and professional development, while exposing learners to institutional operations, project implementation, and stakeholder engagement. The module also emphasizes reflective practice, reporting, and supervision to enhance learning outcomes and career readiness.
BCLL401 Methods in Vocational, Industrial Technical Education The module targets bachelor students who also study the entrepreneurship course so that they develop an appreciation of technical and vocational education in Zimbabwe and abroad.  The two courses are expected to make students creative and self-reliant in sustaining themselves in the current economic environment.  The main focus of the course is on methods and approaches in technical and vocational education, as well as appreciation of its global picture through an analysis of local and international case studies.
 BCLL 405  Project Planning, Monitoring and Evaluation  The module focuses on project planning to equip learners with skills to manage their activities and implement own projects, large or small, for survival in a volatile economic environment.  The module prepares learners to identify, implement, monitor and evaluate their own projects in the communities.  The module also involves a detailed study of network analysis and project scheduling techniques, project structuring, project finance, hiring and management of personnel, control of materials, monitoring the project, budgeting and project completion. Learners develop models/frameworks based on informed decisions.
 BCLL 402  Design and Development of Instructional Materials in Lifelong learning  The module gives students a firm foundation in the modern concepts of designing and developing instructional materials for use in today’s world, as well as skills and principles to apply in this process.
 BCLL404  Environment and Sustainable Development  The learners should be able to conceptualize global environmental settings and be part and parcel in the whole process of global environmental management. The learner should state various dimensions of sustainable development and implement strategies in the management of natural resources. They should be able to analyse some of the environmental and sustainable development strategies that are currently in place.
 BCLL403  Comparative Studies in Lifelong Learning  The module enlightens students with knowledge to compare studies done by other countries in an endeavour to improve on our local studies.
 BCLL407  Rural and Urban Extension in Lifelong Learning  The course aims to equip Bachelor of Community Education and Lifelong Learning students with critical content, processes and outcomes of Rural and Urban Extension. The module explores developmental issues in rural and urban contexts and how these can be resolved through extension. The module explores the professional competences required to facilitate change processes in rural and urban contexts; and the public leadership role of extension in developmental situations.
BCLL470 Research Project The module seeks to create skills of knowledge creation through giving students an opportunity to innovatively choose research problems and address them with the aid of the supervisor. The ultimate aim of this module is to enhance the student’s social research skills through informed and accumulated academic theory for subsequent practice and also consolidate the anthropological knowledge.  At the end of the module students should be able to do independent research and produce quality honours research reports
