| MITD501 | Diplomacy and State Craft |
This module explores diplomacy and statecraft as key tools of national strategy and International Relations. It combines classical and contemporary theories with practical analysis of how states and non-state actors pursue interests in a multipolar, globalized world. Emphasis is placed on Zimbabwe’s foreign policy traditions and the Second Republic’s engagement and re-engagement agenda within Vision 2030, NDS1, SADC, and AfCFTA. Through simulations, case studies, and policy analysis, students gain the knowledge and competences to understand and apply diplomacy in addressing contemporary global and regional challenges. |
| MITD502 | International Trade Law and Policy | This course introduces the rules and institutions governing international trade. It will focus on the multilateral system governed by the World Trade Organization (WTO) agreements, the most important rules of the WTO, and the critical principles of WTO law. Topics covered will include tariffs, quotas, and other trade restrictions; national treatment and most-favoured-nation clauses; national security exceptions; and dumping and antidumping duties. Policy perspectives will be drawn from economic theory and theories of international relations. The course will also consider the interaction between international trade law and Zimbabwean statutory regimes governing international trade. In this module, students will learn how international trade law impacts economic development. |
| MITD503 | Foundations of International Economic Relations |
The purpose of this module Foundations of International Economic Relations is to provide learners with basic grounding in the basic approaches in international economic relations and international trade. Thus the module enables learners to gain a more detailed knowledge of those aspects of international economic relations and international trade they wish to specialize in. As a grounding module it emphasizes the development of critical thinking and research to understand the problems confronting developing countries and other parts of the world and where possible to think and effect alternate solutions. |
| MITD505 | Contemporary International Economic Relations | The module is designed to give a comprehensive analysis of the international economic system and the nature and consequence of economic interaction among sovereign nation states. Conceptual framework and practical experiences of interaction among nation states will be analyzed and some of the institutions governing international economic relations will be examined. The module will pay special attention to international economic matters such as the World Trade Organisation; the World Economic/Social Forum regional economic development; inter-regional cooperation; Multinational Corporations, the East Asian Economic Developments, the SDGs, the impact of the coronavirus and key international financial institutions like the Paris Club. It is designed for the Master of Science in International Trade and Diplomacy degree. |

Advanced Social Science Research Methods (Faculty Wide Module) |
The module aims to provide advanced skills in research methods for graduate students. It enhances postgraduate students’ knowledge and skills for conducting, analysing and interpreting research in the field of sociology, anthropology and gender studies. The module focuses upon both qualitative and quantitative techniques and the knowledge gained, will be useful for conducting research and as tools for professional practice. The module will also equip learners with the use of digital technologies in data collection, processing, analysis and management. Students to conduct gender sensitive research for the relevant government institutions, UN agencies, NGOs and communities to inform gender policies and programming. |
| MITD506 | International Trade and Investment strategies | International Trade and Investments Strategies as a discipline, is a multi-dimensional study of “international relations”. It examines the nature and scope of trade and investments relations between and among actors in the contemporary international system. This course presents a range of contemporary issues of international trade, investments foreign policy, multilateralism and regional integration through which it is possible to explore the behaviour of states and international organisations. This course will investigate why nations trade, what they trade, and who gains (or not) from this trade. The module will then analyse the motives for countries or organizations to restrict or regulate international trade and study the effects of such policies on economic welfare. In this course, participants shall study the causes and consequences of international trade, the political economy of trade and trade policies. |
| MITD507 | The Art of Negotiation | This module therefore is intended to study the role of negotiation in the fields of diplomacy and international trade. This spans across diverse areas relating to geopolitical change, resource pressures, climate change, international+9 security and trade which are seemingly threatening to spark conflict within communities, regions and the world at large. The module covers the key principles of negotiation skills, different types of negotiations, thus it combines theory with practical activities and scenarios to prepare students for future professional careers in negotiations. |
| MITD508 | Bilateral and Multilateral Relations Management | This advanced module examines the strategic, institutional, and operational aspects of bilateral and multilateral engagements in international trade and diplomacy. Students will explore negotiation frameworks, institutional governance, and the role of state and non-state actors in shaping trade policies. A special focus will be placed on Zimbabwe’s foreign trade and diplomatic strategy, analyzing its engagements within SADC, COMESA AfCTA and global platforms like the WTO. The module combines theory, case studies, and simulations to equip students with practical skills for careers in trade negotiation, economic diplomacy, and international policy |
| MITD570 | MITD570 | Through their dissertations students will be able to show case their ability in conducting innovative research. Each student is expected to come up with a research topic, write the research proposal, clearly articulate either the qualitative research methods or the quantitative research methods or both, the research design(s), research tools, data management and analysis, presentation and discussion of research findings. This module will produce a graduate who is able to undertake research with recommendations that will enhance policy and programme formulation, implementation, monitoring and evaluation. |
