HFA 204	Textile design and ensembles	This is multi-disciplinary studio-based as well as theoretical module aimed to assist students understand fabric and textiles as three dimensional art and their relevance to visual culture. They will develop an understanding of how textile design is applied in practice. It aims at developing visual and practical skills through exploring a wide range of contemporary textile materials. Students will apply colour, structure, pattern and texture in the process of developing technical, sensory and aesthetic abilities and sensibilities.
HFA 205	Pottery and Ceramics	This is a practice based module meant to equip students with workshop skills and dimensions related to pottery and ceramics. Students will explore traditional and modern methods and techniques such as the pebble, slab, the coil and modern methods such as use of the potters wheel. They will also practice traditional means of firing and use of the modern electric kiln. They will experiment with decoration methods such as incising and glazing. The workshop will also take a commercial approach.
HFA 206	Multi-media sculpture	This module is intended to equip students with skills in sculpturing using contemporary media and materials and techniques. They are exposed to modern and postmodern approach of managing 3-D space, discourse and concepts. The workshop approach will allow students to visit and interact with professional sculptors. Residence artists will also be part of the methodology.
HFA305	Public Art and the Environment	Public art as a phenomenon is becoming popular in many countries. This module intends to explore this visual phenomenon and how it relates to the contemporary environment especially for sustainability. In this course students will interact significantly with artists who have been commissioned to construct public art. They will explore the philosophical and epistemological foundations of the genre and it aesthetic impact on society. The module will culminate in the construction of some public art within the university campus of within the community.
HFA306	Advanced Drawing and Visual Research Studio	This module marks the advanced level of visual research and drawing. Students are expected to take their skills to the specialist level such that they are able to mount a critical exhibition for the public. Students will be exposed to artists’ studio and gallery exhibitions so that they get to appreciate the high level of skill and practice.
HFA390	Work Related Learning	In this module students will be attached to art related institutions such as museums, art galleries, art studios art workshops among others with the aim of acquiring knowledge and skills relevant to those institutions and how that could relate to art institutions and industries.
HFA402	Art Entrepreneurship Seminar	In this module students are exposed to the fine arts as business. The seminar approach is intended to expose students to the concept of developing a business plan, seeking financial assistance and managing an arts business enterprise. The module is characterized by guest artists running the arts as business for the students’ appreciation of the challenges and successes the arts encounter. It is expected that by the time students graduate, they should be in a position to start or should have started their own small enterprise.
HFA405	Project	This module is meant to equip students with knowledge and understanding of arts based research as a systematic application of artistic processes, focused on appreciation of epistemological processes of artistic knowing and inquiry. The module is a consolidation of general research methodologies but anchored in the visual arts. Students will engage in practical inquiry and application of visual art methodologies as a mode of learning. This will enable students appreciate the significance of peculiar research knowledge and its relevance in disciplinary study. The research will result in practical solutions to societal problems.
HFA407	Curatorial and Gallery Studies	This module introduces students to the museum as an art institution which deals with cultural heritage. The module entails visits to museums and studying its operations. Guest lecturers are part of the modules as well as simulations and curating of exhibitions.
HFA 470	Dissertation	The module equips learners with the skills of carrying out the actual research and writing a research project through data collection. The students are given an opportunity to research on a topic of their choice. This module derives support from other fundamental modules in the degree programme with the guidance of an experienced faculty member. The length of the research project should range from 10 000 to 12 000 words.
